He started a steel fabrication business that began in his yard and grew into a multi-city corporation. He was a pilot, played music on his guitar, and loved to sing. Jim was "politically incorrect" and believed in a code of Honor established for Sons of the South by General Robert E. Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sylvia Matthews Floyd (affectionately known as "Saint Sylvia"), his son, James Anthony Floyd, his wife, Elizabeth, and their children Luna and Nicholas, and his daughter, Ericka Lynne Webb, her husband, Raymond Webb, and their daughter Halle Nicole.

Visitation will be Friday morning from 9:30- 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
