Donald J. Trump, the real estate mogul and reality television celebrity, announced Tuesday that he would seek the Republican presidential nomination.

"We need somebody that literally will take this country and make it great again. We can do that," Trump told a crowd of supporters at the eponymous Trump Tower in New York. "So ladies and gentlemen, I am officially running for president of the United States."

The tycoon's announcement, according to people familiar with his plans, is set to be followed by the release of a self-drafted financial summary of his assets, including an outline of his debts. Robert Costa and Matea Gold had a preview Monday:

The financial statement drafted by his office is aimed at demonstrating his success as a businessman, as well as proving to skeptical GOP leaders that he is willing to disclose as much as other candidates at this stage.
Trump has publicly flirted with a White House bid for several campaign cycles, with critics dismissing the highly public decision-making process as attempts to increase his media exposure.

But Trump began indicating earlier this year that he was seriously considering a 2016 run. In addition to launching a presidential exploratory committee in March, he also decided in March to delay production on his long-running reality show, "The Apprentice," in order to focus his efforts on a potential campaign. In February, he began hiring staff in early voting states.

Trump enters the race with nearly unmatched name recognition and a powerful real estate brand -- but a reputation for a quick temper and attention-grabbing celebrity feuds.

Trump has frequently found himself embroiled in seemingly trivial spats with various public figures, including Arianna Huffington, Rosie O’Donnell and Cher. His bluntness was directed at allies as well. In 2012, after serving as a surrogate for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, he questioned the campaign's strategy. "Romney campaign used me in 6 primary states and won every one - they should have used me in Florida and Ohio & he would be President," he tweeted.

    .

The business mogul, who has never held public office, enters an extremely crowded field of Republican presidential hopefuls, now numbering a dozen major candidates. And it remains to be seen how he will distinguish himself from his rivals on policy issues, in part because he's steered clear of many policy specifics: last month, he raised eyebrows when he said he had a "foolproof plan" to defeat the Islamic State terrorist group, but refused to reveal details because "I don’t want the enemy to know what I’m doing."

The Democratic National Committee immediately lampooned Trump's candidacy, indirectly taking a swipe at the entire GOP presidential field.

“Today, Donald Trump became the second major Republican candidate to announce for president in two days. He adds some much-needed seriousness that has previously been lacking from the GOP field, and we look forward to hearing more about his ideas for the nation," DNC spokeswoman Holly Shulman said in a statement.

What's clear is that Trump -- who has been traveling heavily in early-voting states -- plans to tout his business credentials and paint himself as a Washington outsider. In his announcement speech, Trump aggressively stressed his business savvy while knocking the political class for failing to deliver on promises.

"Politicians are all talk, no action. Nothing is going to get done. They will not bring us, believe me, to the promised land. They will not," Trump said. "I've been on the circuit making speeches and I hear my fellow Republicans — and they're wonderful people, I like them! They all want me to support them! — ... I watch the speeches of these people and they say, 'The sun will rise, the moon will set! All sorts of wonderful things will happen!'"

Though Trump faces an uphill battle to be taken seriously by his rivals, political watchers and the media, his enormous wealth means that he will be able to fund his own campaign out of pocket.

"I don't need anybody's money. I'm using my own money. ... I'm really rich," he told supporters.

LA MALBAIE, Quebec (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he has asked U.S. representatives not to endorse the joint communique put out by the Group of Seven leaders after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's "false statements" at a news conference.

After departing from the Quebec summit for Singapore, Trump tweeted that Trudeau's remarks at a news conference, where he said Canada would not be pushed around, "were very dishonest and weak".

"PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, 'US Tariffs were kind of insulting' and he 'will not be pushed around.' Very dishonest & weak. Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!" the U.S. president tweeted.

Trump meets Kim Jong Un in Singapore

After months of saber-rattling that gave way to flirtation, President Trump finally met face-to-face with Kim Jong Un at a hotel on Sentosa Island in Singapore on Tuesday morning.

Hours into a working lunch, at which the two leaders discussed a deal to denuclearize North Korea, Trump and Jong Un took a stroll together, and the U.S. president declared: “We’re going right now for a signing.” While it remained unclear what sort of document the two men would sign, Trump added that the meeting had gone “better than anybody could have expected.”

Their meeting began shortly after 9 a.m. local time, with Trump wearing a dark suit and red tie, and Kim dressed in a black suit. The two men walked along a white colonnade, meeting in front of a bank of 12 alternating U.S. and North Korean flags where they shook hands. The handshake lasted about 12 seconds.

According to the Shanghai Media Group, the 35-year-old Kim arrived at the summit venue seven minutes earlier than Trump, 71, to show respect to his elder.

After their initial greeting, Trump and Kim walked inside, sat down and spoke briefly to reporters.

Trump, who had insisted he would know “within the first minute” if Kim was serious about denuclearization, said he “felt really great” and that it was his “honor” to meet with the North Korean dictator.

“We’re going to have a great discussion,” Trump said. “A tremendous success. We will have a great relationship.”

“It was not easy to get here,” Kim said. “There were obstacles, but we overcame them to be here.”

Kim likened the meeting to something “from a science fiction movie,” according to a translation of his remarks.

The pair then retreated to a private room where they met one-on-one, with interpreters, for about 35 minutes before an expanded bilateral meeting with both U.S. and North Korean advisers.

The president was flanked by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, chief of staff John Kelly and national security adviser John Bolton. Kim was joined by vice chairman Kim Yong Chol and foreign ministers Ri Yong Ho and Ri Su Yong. Trump and Kim sat across from each other near the center of a long table.

At the top of the expanded meeting, Trump said he and Kim will solve the problems presented by a nuclear North Korea.

“Working together, we will get it taken care of,” Trump said.

“We overcame all kinds of skepticism and speculations about this summit,” Kim added, “and I believe that this is good for the peace.”

    .

Maybe somethang real shall get accomplished like piss in our time.

    .

Trump arrived at the hotel after issuing a flurry of tweets dismissing skeptics of the meeting between U.S. leaders and the rogue nuclear nation as “haters & losers.”

He also revealed that his economic adviser, Larry Kudlow, who was not part of the U.S. delegation in Singapore, had suffered a heart attack was being treated at Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland.

“Larry is currently in good condition,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said. “And his doctors expect he will make a full and speedy recovery.”

Adding to the surreal nature of Trump-Kim spectacle, former NBA star Dennis Rodman appeared on CNN in a rambling, emotional interview live from Singapore, where he broke into tears as he commented on his role in bringing Kim and Trump to the negotiating table.

Rodman, who first traveled to North Korea in 2013 to meet with Kim, said he received death threats as a result of his outreach.

“I believed in North Korea,” Rodman said. “And when I went home I couldn’t even go home. I couldn’t go home. I had to hide out for 30 days. I couldn’t even go home, but I kept my head up high, brother. I knew things were going to change. I knew it. I was the only one.”

The flamboyant former basketball star added that the Trump White House called him Tuesday to thank him for his unlikely diplomacy.
