Despite his youth, Kyle Bristow, the white nationalist who recently started the Foundation for the Marketplace of Ideas to confront so-called "social justice warriors," has a long history on the radical right. His ex-wife Ashley Herzog last year published an essay about their marriage that was quickly taken offline. Hatewatch reached out to Herzog to talk about the essay, her time with Bristow, an attorney in Michigan, and just what it's like to be so close to one of the Alt-Right's most vicious attack dogs.

Last year, Ashley Herzog published an essay online about her husband, Kyle Bristow, an attorney in Michigan who has been involved in the racist radical right since he was a college student. It was a call for help, a frantic plea from someone married into the movement.

Herzog was going through a contentious divorce, and both she and Bristow had begun tossing barbs at one another as they fought for custody of their then 3-year-old daughter.

But the essay was also a plea, a heartfelt confessional as she spoke of her addiction to prescription drugs and her fears that the “soft-spoken” and “polite” young man she married years before was hardly the man she thought. “So, are you a white supremacist?” she recalled asking Bristow just hours into their first date. His answer was a direct, "No."

“That was the very beginning of my three-year trip through his weird world of white supremacy, one that finally ended in the living hell where I currently reside,” she wrote at the time.

The essay’s life online was short. A judge involved in the couple’s divorce ordered she take it down so as not to interfere with the custody proceedings, and Herzog complied. She didn’t want to risk losing her only daughter to the “circus” of racist white supremacists. “Indeed. If my precious daughter grows up with Kyle Bristow, she’ll have plenty of fear, and plenty of hate,” Bristow wrote.

That certainly seemed true. Bristow’s fame has always been tied to his racist beliefs. As a student at Michigan State University in 2006, Bristow led the chapter of Young Americans for Freedom, spearheading anti-immigrant and anti-gay campaigns on campus. His efforts prompted the SPLC to take the unusual step of listing the club as a hate group.

Then, four years later, while Bristow was attending law school, he published White Apocalypse, a novel seething with lethal white supremacist revenge fantasies against Jewish professors, Latino and American Indian activists and staffers of a group clearly modeled after the SPLC. Since then, Bristow has continued to air his extremist views in white nationalist, anti-gay media while carrying on something of a double life and making a name for himself by seeking justice for victims of “revenge porn,” the unwanted distribution of sexual photos or videos of a person without their consent.

Hatewatch recently talked with Herzog to explain her time with Bristow, who declined several requests from Hatewatch to be interviewed. As she explained, what we see is only half the man. There is much, much more.

Did Kyle Bristow ever try to hide his racist views from you?

When we were first dating, the entire time he portrayed himself as someone who really didn't have white nationalist beliefs and that the Southern Poverty Law Center had just written about him because it was vindictive and out to get anyone who doesn't agree. “They’re going to censor me.” That's what he would tell me. The first time I met him, he looked me in the eye and said, "I'm not a white supremacist." Obviously, he is. He just waited for the true colors to come out.

And how did those colors first come out?

He got lazier about trying to hide it. I was looking at his Facebook one day and saw that he was having an extended conversation with April Gaede. She is the mother of those twins who were in Prussian Blue (Editors' Note: Prussian Blue was a racist pop preteen duo comprised of Lynx and Lamb Gaede.) He was talking to her online, and it disgusted me. I said, "Get her off your friends list." We had just gotten married. He was pretty angry about that.

    What was he angry about?

He said that Gaede was raising her daughters the right way because, as he said to me, "Do you want our daughter to grow up and date Negroids?" – or whatever he calls them. I think that's the first time I realized that he was not just being unfairly portrayed. He kept saying the Gaede twins were being kept on the straight and narrow, and he acted like they were upstanding citizens. He said of course that's how we're going to raise our daughters.

So he wasn’t trying to hide his racist views.

He played this game where he was very charming, and he was very doting with me and gave me flowers, and he portrayed himself as this really nice guy. Then he bought our daughter that outfit.

    That outfit?

One of the first things he did as a father was buy our daughter a onesie in a newborn size that said S-L-W-S, which stands for Smash Left-Wing Scum. (Editors' Note: "Smash Left Wing Scum" is a popular phrase that emerged from racist music and street-level skinhead activism.) He put her in that as a newborn.

By the time you married, he had already written White Apocalypse. Had you read his novel? Weren’t those ideas already obvious in his writings?

I don't even consider it a novel. It was just his personal manifesto. The main character was supposed to be him. All the locations have some kind of personal meaning for him. The main character was supposed to be him, and everyone who was murdered in the book or became a villain was someone that he had some personal agenda against. I found it really creepy.

The book cheerfully describes the assassination of character obviously based on the SPLC’s Mark Potok and also bases a character on the SPLC’s Heidi Beirich –– something he denied. Did he ever talk about writing the book, or what he meant?

At first he didn't really say much about that. He just said, "Oh, the SPLC. You can't really trust anything they say." Later on he started laughing about how it was totally supposed to portray Heidi and Mark. He admitted it, and he would laugh about it. He said, “Well, if they complain then they're just admitting to being oily-haired trolls.”

But all of that wasn’t alarming enough to leave, I presume.

I thought maybe I could fix him, or that maybe he didn't really believe these things. He was just doing this because he had some issues. I know that he was bullied in school as a kid by black athletes, and I thought maybe there's something in his past he could get over and change. But the longer it went on, the more I realized he doesn't want to change. He thinks he's perfect and that there's something wrong with everyone else around him.

Did he have close ties to others in the movement, or was he racist in a vacuum?

Matt Heimbach and he were becoming really good friends. (Editors’ Note: Heimbach is the head of the white nationalist Traditionalist Youth Network.) They were talking all the time. This is probably back in 2013 when those two were very close and they were on the phone every night. Heimbach came out to Toledo. He shows up in these combat boots and a white power T-shirt. I said, "Kyle. We're not going to go out to dinner with him like that. Does he have any other clothes? This is embarrassing for me." But Heimbach didn’t change, and at dinner, they were making jokes about lynching and hanging their enemies from trees, which I assume means black people. I was ready to get up and leave.

So your relationship started to dissolve around his racist beliefs?

I was feeling isolated at the time. I was trying to make friends. Kyle kept getting more and more into this white power thing. He started dropping our old friends. Then he became friends with people like Dan Poole, an activist for the American Freedom Party. (Editors’ Note: The American Freedom Party is a political party that promotes white nationalism.) Poole was always talking about how the problem with the right wing was that they didn’t want to discuss the “JP,” which is the Jewish Problem. I was like, "God, what world are we living in?” I almost felt like they must be kidding and I would sit there and try to laugh like, "These guys have to be joking." Looking back, I don't think that they were.

Did he take you along to any of his racist meetings?

Once he took me to a Charles Martel Society conference in Baltimore. (Editors' Note: The Charles Martel Society publishes The Occidental Quarterly, a racist journal devoted to the idea that as whites become a minority "the civilization and free governments that whites have created" will be jeopardized.") He said he was going to take me along because his parents paid for the plane tickets. He was very secretive, and he said that there was a confidentiality contract, so I couldn't tell anyone anything. They were registering the conference as a software conference at an Embassy Suites near the airport in Baltimore. The hotel was dead quiet that weekend, so I was just wandering around the hotel by myself. That was when we went to this after party, and that's where they were singing something in German. I know that they were singing, "Sieg Heil."

    What was that like?

It was like a cult. I think I hit a low point with the drugs and the alcohol then.

Your abuse of prescription drugs has become a point of contention that Bristow has used to argue for full custody of your children. Do you care to comment?

I wasn't doing illegal drugs, but I was definitely getting into pill popping. I was becoming very miserable with him. It's a cult. That's the only way I can describe it. The stuff that comes out of their mouths doesn't even make sense. I didn't see much hope of getting anywhere with him about a lot of things, but I did confront him about saying this kind of stuff in front our daughter.

Were either of you worried his increased involvement in the white nationalist movement would have any effect on your careers?

Oh, yes. It was always a fear of his, that he would not get a law license or he wouldn't pass a character and fitness exam. (Editors' Note: A character and fitness exam is part of the licensing requirement for most state bar associations.) That was a real concern. He was legitimately worried that he would not be licensed. He had a whole strategy for how he was going to go in there and distract them with questions so that they couldn't bring up any questions. He even went under a different name. He worked as James Bristow. For a year his boss thought that was his name.

It’s a violent movement that Kyle is involved in. You wrote in your essay about him stockpiling weapons like an AR-15. Did Kyle ever talk about this?

I was legitimately worried that my husband was going to be affiliated with people that might blow up a building or something. There was extremely violent rhetoric between him and his friends. They were constantly talking about race wars and revolution, and what they were going to do when the war happens and how they're hoping to instigate this race war so that we can all become this separate white state. He had an AR-15 under the bed. He had a few other guns. He had so much ammunition that he couldn't store it in our room. He started putting it in our daughter's closet. It's like, "Oh, great. My 2-year-old year old pulled an assault rifle out from under the bed. Oh, great Kyle. I'm so glad that our toddler is finding your weapons under the bed.”

You have taken down your blog post in which you describe things that few people have ever heard about Bristow. Is there a reason you’re giving this interview now?

Kyle gets away with portraying himself as someone that he's not. And, frankly, he's done this for far too long. He's not a victim. He's playing the victim just like he did with the SPLC, claiming they're attacking him and he's not really like that. He's totally like that and I want everyone to know it, as his former wife. They are dangerous. Not just a bunch of buffoons. I used to think the KKK doesn't even exist. It was like, "Who cares? It's a bunch of Southern rednecks who can't do anything. Just ignore them." No. I've seen my husband and his friends. They masquerade as these normal people, and they're just not.

    Interview conducted by Ryan Lenz.

Racist troll-turned-movement attorney Kyle Bristow finds a second wind and a new audience for his activism.

Earlier this year, a bearded man wearing a “Make America Great Again” baseball cap was caught on video shoving a young black woman, a protester, at a rally for Donald Trump in Louisville, Ky. He shouted racial slurs and repeatedly yelled “leftist scum” as he and others pushed the woman through the crowd.

The young man in the video was Matthew Heimbach, the head of the white nationalist Traditionalist Youth Network (TYN), an “Alternative Right” organization that works to recruit racist college students. The woman he shoved, a student named Shiya Nwanguma, posted a cell phone video later saying she was called a “nigger” and a “cunt” as the hostile crowd swarmed around her.

Heimbach, who later boasted publicly of his role in the attack, painted a different picture. The video, he wrote in a self-congratulatory post to the TYN website, “features yours truly helping the crowd drive out one of the women who had been pushing, shoving, barking, and screaming at the attendees for the better part of an hour. It won’t be me next time, but White Americans are getting fed up and they’re learning that they must either push back or be pushed down.”

Now the case is heading for the courts. On March 31, Nwanguma filed a lawsuit alleging that Heimbach and another man shoved and struck her after Trump urged supporters in the Louisville crowd to “get ’em out of here.” Heimbach also was criminally charged with harassment with physical contact.

    .

    .

And representing Heimbach will be Kyle Bristow, a soft-spoken but viciously opinionated racist activist, a recently minted lawyer who entered the movement while an undergraduate at Michigan State University. Like Heimbach, Bristow in the last couple of years has become one of the white supremacist movement’s most visible young activists — and he is doing his best to become even more so.

Since earning his law degree from the University of Toledo in 2012, Bristow has become the go-to attorney for a growing cast of racists –– young and old. In addition to Heimbach, an old friend, Bristow has advised the National Alliance Reform & Restoration Group, a radical faction trying to seize control of the remnants of the neo-Nazi National Alliance. Earlier this year, he formed the Foundation for the Marketplace of Ideas (FMI) “to promote the United States Constitution and to oppose people who and organizations which strive to usurp the freedoms it guarantees” — and to target so-called “social justice warriors.” Bristow has also made a considerably less controversial name for himself by successfully representing several women who were subjected to online “revenge porn.”

It has been a remarkable trajectory for Bristow, who once wrote and self-published a poorly written, crude novel about a future race war. As a student, he was known for sophomoric and racist stunts like his “Catch an Illegal Immigrant Day.” In 2014, his wife divorced him, giving an interview this summer to Hatewatch in which she described her growing horror at his neo-Nazi antics. But he soldiered on.

Today, Kyle Bristow is a fairly major figure on the American radical right, propelled in part by the rise of the Alt-Right and its hero, Donald Trump.

This month, Bristow is hosting a private function near Lansing, Mich., to celebrate the Alt-Right, which has become nationally known since Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton called out the movement by name. Another movement star, James Edwards of the radio show “The Political Cesspool,” will be speaking. In a news release for the event, Bristow wrote, “We are excited to host James Edwards and to hear his thoughts of the Alt-Right phenomenon not long before the election of Donald Trump occurs and he ascends to his throne at the White House.”

    Birth of a Nationalist

The Alt-Right today is white supremacy rebranded for the digital age — a kind of army of racist Internet trolls who take after their enemies with incredibly vitriolic and often frightening online attacks. And Kyle Bristow has been playing that same kind of game for many years. It began when he was a college student.

At MSU, Bristow became president of the school’s chapter of Young Americans for Freedom (MSU-YAF), a campus youth group founded in 1960 to advocate for conservative public policies. He also won an uncontested seat on the student government council. The kid classmates remembered as a coin-collecting, bookish blond wasted no time in showing what his politics were all about.

As a student representative, Bristow issued a 13-point program for the school that called for capturing undocumented immigrants in the area, cutting school funding for non-heterosexual groups, and giving more representation to men and whites on the student council than others. And as the chief of MSU-YAF, he tried to organize a “Catch an Illegal Immigrant Day,” held a “Koran Desecration” competition, joked about giving smallpox-infested blankets to Native American students, and hosted lectures by well-known racist leaders like Jared Taylor of the American Renaissance publishing operation and Nick Griffin of the whites-only British National Party.

But it wasn’t long before MSU had had enough of Bristow. He suffered a landslide recall vote after he refused to resign or recant his agenda. “I have no regrets as to what I did, said, or planned to do while serving as chairman of MSU-YAF,’ he boasted in a self-congratulatory letter of resignation. “I am very proud of my exploits.”

    .

At least the little weasel has a self-published manifesto
    .

After he graduated and was attending law school at the University of Toledo, Bristow found time amid his studies to turn his attention to creative writing. He self-published a novel through Amazon called White Apocalypse, a vicious revenge fantasy that depicted what were obviously two officials of the Southern Poverty Law Center, Heidi Beirich and Mark Potok. (The Potok character was assassinated in the text.) The novel, and a later collection of essays called The Conscience of a Right Winger, received widespread support from many white nationalist leaders, including William Johnson, the chairman of the racist American Freedom Party.

“Kyle Bristow's analysis is detailed and insightful. He focuses on some of the main fallacies in law and society that have contributed to the decline and fall of Western civilization,” wrote Johnson, who once proposed a constitutional amendment to deport every American citizen with “an ascertainable trace of Negro blood.” “It is essays like the ones contained in this compilation that help lead Western Man from the darkness that grips him in every country where he resides.”

    Fitness and Character

Bristow may or may not be “detailed and insightful,” but he is certainly crude. Asked for an interview by Hatewatch, he responded with name-calling and a threat to sue if he were contacted again by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

“I cannot imagine any reason — much less a good one — for which I would want to be subjected to an ‘interview’ by you or any other mental-moral defective associated with the vile, degenerate, repugnant and leftist Southern Poverty Law Center,” Bristow wrote. “The next time I hope to hear from you will be when I am appointed by President Donald Trump to serve as his czar of the forthcoming inquisition so as to make America great again and you contact me to beg for forgiveness for having undermined Western civilization as an agent of the SPLC.

“If you are lucky following the Trump-Bristow Inquisition, you will only end up in a locked room in which you spend your time smearing your feces in the shape of Pepe the Frog on its padded walls. [Pepe the Frog is a cartoon character that has been hijacked by the radical right as a racist symbol in the last year or so.] I suspect that Torquemada will be considered a lightweight compared to me when historians compare the two of us in the future when all is said and done.”

Bristow apparently wasn’t much nicer to his wife.

    .

Delusional lawyer fuktard poses with silenced pistol from going ass-to-mouth with

    .

Last year, Ashley Bristow, in the middle of a contentious legal battle over custody of the divorced couple’s daughter, published an essay describing her married life. She said that Kyle Bristow, who has posted menacing pictures of himself posing with heavy weapons online since he was young, had started stockpiling ammunition for his AR-15 and openly fantasized about a coming race war. But she stayed with him, she said, until attending a meeting in 2014 of the Charles Martel Society, which publishes Occidental Dissent, a racist, pseudo-intellectual journal. She recounted an after-party at the conference where attendees burst into song. “And by ‘sing,’ I mean it was a bone-chilling, guttural chant in a foreign language,” she wrote. “The only words I recognized were ‘Sieg Heil,’ punctuated with a raised fist.”

Her conclusion was stark: “If my precious daughter grows up with Kyle Bristow, she’ll have plenty of fear, and plenty of hate.” She left him a short time later.

Through it all, even as he was making a career as an attorney in suburban Detroit, Bristow continued his racist activism — even though the state bar association could conceivably discipline him on grounds of character and fitness. Last year, that group ran headlong into Bristow and his ideology in a bizarre set of circumstances.

The State Bar of Michigan had long been running a short-story contest, and Bristow, whose name apparently wasn’t well known to the organization, won an honorable mention for a story he entered in the biennial contest. Titled “Post-Conviction Relief,” it was about a “soft-spoken and introverted” Michigan criminal defense attorney whose daughter, Caroline, is murdered by an 18-year-old “tattoo-covered, drug-abusing gangbanger named Tyrone Washington.” After the trial, the lawyer, who is white, goes to the prison to visit Washington, who is black, under the guise of being an appeals appeal attorney. He kills Washington with a sharpened pen.

When Bristow’s past was publicized, the bar association reacted in horror and embarrassment, saying that a second look at Bristow’s story found it “to be embedded with racist cues and symbolism.” One bar official characterized the story as a “potential ideological manifesto.”

"We cannot apologize enough,” said Michigan Bar President Thomas C. Rombach, adding that the short-story contest would be discontinued. “The short story contest has been popular with many [attorney] members. … But if this result could occur even with the high caliber of the judges who conferred the award, the contest should be discontinued.”

    Alt-Right Rising

As Bristow’s name has become better known on the radical right, along with the rising recognition of the larger Alt-Right movement, he has moved to consolidate his position as a racist leader. His new think tank, the Foundation for the Marketplace of Ideas, is a thoroughly racist institution despite its anodyne name.

Joining Bristow on that group’s board of directors are leading activists of the radical right, including the American Freedom Party’s William Daniel Johnson; Ryan Sorba of California Young Americans for Freedom, an anti-LGBT activist who wrote The Born Gay Hoax in 2007; and attorney Jason Robb, the son of Thom Robb, who is the longtime leader of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan in Arkansas.

The foundation’s mission is ostensibly “to educate the public about the freedoms guaranteed by the United States Constitution and people and organizations which strive to usurp said freedoms.” Translated, that means that it will likely focus on entities that Bristow sees as the enemies of white supremacy. In recent months, he has begun a research project digging into Supreme Court cases he claims will pull back the veil on how “social justice warriors” and their allies have manipulated culture and public opinion to define the “zeitgeist” of civil rights.

“Positions on certain issues — such as civil rights — that are accepted as absolute truths today, however, were hotly contested issues yesteryear,” the foundation said this month. “The battle where the debates on the issues most palpably occurred has been—and is still today—waged at the Supreme Court of the United States.”

One such instance, the foundation asserts, is the landmark 1967 Loving v. Virginia case, in which the court struck down laws prohibiting interracial marriage. Bristow cited with approval an amicus brief filed by then-North Carolina Attorney General T.W. Burton supporting such racist laws. “There is no equalitarianism in the field of biology, anthropology and geneticism,” Burton wrote. “If a state feels like the life of its people is better protected by a policy of racial integrity as to both races, or for any other race for that matter, then it has the right to legislate in such field.”

Despite his prolific racist activism, Bristow also has become known for successfully representing victims of revenge porn — photos of nude or semi-nude women posted by former boyfriends or lovers to the Internet. In one case, he won $500,000 for such a victim, and his law practice is thriving, apparently as a result of this work.

But it is unclear where Bristow intends to go next with his activism. The one point that he makes clear is that he plans to spend the remainder of his life fighting for the racist cause. As Bristow said about himself and his comrades in the movement, “We sleep, eat, breathe, work and live Alt-Right.” And Bristow doesn’t seem destined to the dustbin. Not yet. Not with the Alt-Right thriving in an election season.

At this year’s Alt-Right Conference in Detroit, sponsored by Bristow’s new foundation and drawing extremists such as the National Policy Institute’s Richard Spencer and Nathan Damigo of Identity Evropa, a smiling Bristow took the stage with a crude barrage of racist jokes before promising a future for them all.

“We are eager to make a last stand,” Bristow said. “We are not doing this to make money or to advance our careers. We are doing it because we truly believe that we are right and that what we are doing is in the interest of our people, and that we have a moral obligation to seek the realization of our people’s destiny.”

    Listen up $PLC ZOGtards:

Look at the Board of Directors: Kyle Bristow's "law clerk" is a Satannic mongrel named Bryan Reo, and Bryan Reo took down a dozen of my Church web pages because I found that it wasn't white back in 2010.

    http://www.freedomfront.org/board-of-directors/

The dirty mongrel sued me for $10.75 million in federal kort and the case was so bogus it had to be dismissed.

    http://www.whitenationalist.org/foru...ationalist.org

Yesterday I was applying for a Petition for Certiori to the u$ jewpreme kort:

    http://bryanreo-lawsuits.xyz/Reo2014...of%20Brief.pdf

I asked Kyle Bristow to help me out with an evil mongrel who was making false accusations against me and my Church on 10 Feb 2016. The weasel said it couldn't because "Bryan Reo is my law clerk."

    http://whitenationalist.org/forum/sh...4091#post14091

So now these so-called "white supremacist" lawyers are going ass-to-mouth with a known mongrel that has taken down Chistian Identity web pages in conjunction with a former Jersey City jew jailer named William Finck who spent 12 years in federal prison for murdering a Puerto Rican sneak thief prisoner.

Funny how none of you $PLC tards even know how to do a basic search of the Internet to find out who is who and who is jew. But not to worry -- neither did the North Perry Nuclear Power Plant. At least not until there were numerous failures there and they finally did a google search and found my web pages and Bryan Reo's being a non-white "White Supremacist."

    http://www.newsnet5.com/news/local-n...-safety-issues

And when the $PLC looks at "dangerous Stormfront radicals who kill, how about when Bryan Reo threatened to murder FBI agents due to Reo paranoia?

    http://bryanreo-lawsuits.xyz/Reo-Sta...Stormfront.pdf

But then again, this is how much Bryan Reo loves the First Amendment as does Attorney Bristow:

    http://pastorlindstedt.org/lindstedt...t-27July16.pdf

Of course with 45 lawsuits in the Lake County Ohio County Courts, Bryan Reo goes after small white family businesses and probably splits the proceeds working with Attorney Bristow.

Yup, "White Supremacy" isn't what it used to be. Let's see what what White Supremacists like Bryan Reo look like:

    http://bryanreo-lawsuits.xyz/Reo-Sta...ibit2-full.pdf

Well, them NIM-Busters are still sore that Bryan Reo took their web page down four times, so they keep grudges.

By the way, if the Southern Poverty Law Center wants to get rid of "White Supremacist" ambulance chasers, perhaps you can get in touch with the owner of the below family small company which was extorted for $1500 by Bryan Reo and possibly Attorney Bristow who are working to becum the next White Supremacist $PLC. Mr. Norton would certainly like for a class-action lawsuit against the law firm of Bristow & Reo.

This profile of a limited-purpose public figure Attorney Bryan Reo is definitely NOT authorized by Bryan Reo, but is meant to keep the public informed as to what this delusional deranged Satanic Mongrel Abomination is up to in pretending to be a genuine White Supremacist.

Under NO Circumstances is anyone who hears my voice to harm or molest or have anything to do with Bryan Reo or anyone who will have anything to do with Bryan Reo.
    Stay away from Bryan Reo.
