The Gospel of John
Chapters 1 through 11
From The Christogenea New Testament
? 2009 William R. Finck Jr.
I 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Yahweh, and the Word was Yahweh. 2 He was in the beginning with Yahweh. 3 All things were through Him, and without Him was not even one thing. That which was done 4 in Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness; yet the darkness comprehends it not.
6 There was a man, having been sent by Yahweh, whose name was Iohannes. 7 He came for a witness, in order that he would testify concerning the light, that they all would believe through him. 8 Not that he was the light, but that he would testify concerning the light.
9 The light was the truth, which coming into the Society enlightens every man. 10 He was in the Society, and the Society came to be through Him, yet the Society knew Him not. 11 He came into His own land, and the men of the country received Him not. 12 But as many who received Him, He gave to them the authority which the children of Yahweh are to attain, to those believing in His Name: 13 not those from of mixed origin nor from of desire of the flesh nor from of the will of man, but they who have been born from Yahweh.
14 And the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us, and we beheld His splendor, splendor as the most-beloved by the Father, full of favor and truth. 15 Iohannes testifies concerning Him, and cried out, saying “This was He whom I said: ‘He coming after me, He is preferred over me, because He was before me’.” 16 Because we have all received from of His fullness, and favor for the sake of favor. 17 For the law had been given through Moses; the favor and the truth have come through Yahshua Christ. 18 No one ever yet having seen Yahweh, the only-born God, He being in the bosom of the Father, He has explained.
19 And this is the testimony of Iohannes, when the Judaeans from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to him, that they could ask him “What are you?” 20 And he admitted, and denied not, and he admitted that “I am not the Christ.” 21 And they asked him “Then what? Are you Elijah?” And he said “I am not.” “Are you a prophet?” and he answered “No.” 22 Then they said to him “Who are you, that we could give an answer to those who sent us, what do you say concerning yourself?” 23 He said: “I am a voice crying in the wilderness. Make straight the way of the Prince!” Just as Isaiah the prophet had spoken. 24 And those who were sent were from of the Pharisees, 25 and they asked him, and said to him “Then why do you immerse if you are not the Christ nor Elijah nor a prophet?” 26 Iohannes replied to them saying “I immerse in water. In your midst stands He whom you do not know, 27 He coming after me, of whom I am not worthy that I loosen the strap of His sandal!” 28 These things happened in Bethania, across the Jordan, where Iohannes was immersing.
29 The next day he sees Yahshua coming to him and he says: “Look! The Lamb of Yahweh, He removing the error of Society. 30 This is He concerning whom I said: ‘A man comes after me who is preferred over me, because He was before me.’ 31 And I did not know Him, but in order that He would be made manifest to Israel, for this reason I came immersing in water.” 32 And Iohannes testified, saying that: “I observed the Spirit descending as a dove from heaven and it abode upon Him. 33 And I did not know Him, but He who has sent me to immerse in water, He said to me: ‘Upon whom you should see the Spirit descending and abiding upon Him, it is He who immerses in the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and have testified that He is the Son of Yahweh!”
29 The next day Iohannes again stood, and two from among the students, 36 and looking at Yahshua walking about he says: “Look, the Lamb of Yahweh!” 37 And his two students heard the saying and followed Yahshua. 38 Then Yahshua turning and looking at them following says to them “What do you seek?” And they said to Him “Rabbi,” (which is spoken, being translated, “Teacher”), “where do You abide?” 39 He says to them “you come and see.” Therefore they came and saw where He stays and they remained with Him that day. It was about the tenth hour. 40 Andreas the brother of Simon Petros was one of the two of those hearing Iohannes and following Him. 41 He finds his own older brother Simon and says to him “We have found the Messiah!” (which is translated “Christ”.) 42 He led him to Yahshua. Looking at him Yahshua said: “You are Simon the son of Iohannes. You shall be called Kephas” (which is interpreted “a stone”).
43 The next day He desired to depart for Galilaia and He finds Philippos. And Yahshua says to him “Follow Me.” 44 And Philippos was from Bethsaida, from the city of Andreas and Petros. 45 Philippos finds Nathanael and says to him: “He whom Moses and the prophets had written about in the law we have found: Yahshua the son of Ioseph from Nazaret.” 46 And Nathanael said to him: “Can anything good be from Nazaret?” Philippos says to him: “Come and see!” 47 Yahshua saw Nathanael coming towards Him and He says about him: “Look! An Israelite indeed, in whom there is no guile!” 48 Nathanael says to Him: “From where do You know me?” Yahshua replied and said to him: “Before Philippos called you, being under the fig tree I saw you.” 49 Nathanael replied to Him: “Rabbi! You are the Son of Yahweh! You are King of Israel!” 50 Yahshua replied and said to him: “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, you believe? Greater than these things you shall see.” 51 And He says to him: “Truly, truly I say to you: You shall see the heaven having been opened and the messengers of Yahweh ascending and descending before the Son of Man.”
II 1 Then on the third day there was a marriage-feast in Kana of Galilaia, and the mother of Yahshua was there. 2 And Yahshua and His students had also been invited to the marriage-feast. 3 And being short of wine the mother of Yahshua says to Him “They do not have wine!” 4 And Yahshua says to her: “What is there with Me and with you, woman? My hour has not yet come!” 5 His mother says to the servants “Whatever He should say to you, you do.” 6 And there were six stone urns sitting there, in accordance with the purification of the Judaeans, each having space for two or three amphorae. 7 Yahshua says to them: “fill the urns with water.” And they filled them to the top. 8 Then He says to them: “Now draw and bring it to the table-master.” And they brought it. 9 And as the table-master tasted the water it became wine, and he knew not from where it is (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the table-master calls the bridegroom 10 and says to him: “All men set out the good wine first, and the inferior when they are drunk. You have kept the good wine until now!”
11 This was the first of the signs which Yahshua had done in Kana of Galilaia, and He made manifest His honor, and His students believed in Him.
12 After this He went down into Kapharnaoum, and His mother and brethren and His students, and they abode there for not many days. 13 And it was near the Passover of the Judaeans, and Yahshua went up to Jerusalem.
14 And He found seated in the temple those selling cattle and sheep and doves and the bankers, 15 and having made a whip of ropes He cast them all out of the temple, and the sheep and the cattle, and He spilled out the coins of the bankers and overturned the tables, 16 and to those selling doves He said: “Take these things from here! Do not make the house of My Father a house of merchandise!” 17 His students remembered that it is written: “The zeal for Your house consumes Me!”
18 Therefore the Judaeans responded and said to Him: “What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?” 19 Yahshua replied and said to them: “You destroy this temple and in three days I shall raise it!” 20 Therefore the Judaeans said: “Forty-six years to build this temple, and You shall raise it in three days?” 21 (But He had spoken concerning the temple of His body. 22 Therefore when He had risen from the dead, His students remembered that He had said this, and they believed in the writing and in the word which Yahshua spoke.)
23 And as He was among those in Jerusalem on the Passover at the feast, many believed in His name, observing the signs which He had done. 24 But Yahshua Himself did not entrust Himself to them on account that He knowing everyone, 25 also therefore had no need that anyone testify concerning a man. Indeed He knew what was in a man.
III 1 Now there was a man from among the Pharisees, Nikodemos was his name, a leader of the Judaeans. 2 He came to Him at night and said to Him: “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from Yahweh, for no one is able to make these signs which You make, unless it could be that Yahweh is with him.” 3 Yahshua replied and said to him: “Truly, truly I say to you, unless a man should be born from above, he is not able to see the Kingdom of Yahweh.” 4 Nikodemos says to Him: “How is a man able to be born, being old? Is he able to enter into the womb of his mother a second time and to be born?” 5 Yahshua replied: “Truly, truly I say to you, if one should not be born from water and Spirit, he is not able to enter into the Kingdom of Yahweh! 6 That which is born from of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born from of the Spirit is Spirit. 7 You should not wonder that I said to you that it is necessary for you to be born from above. 8 The wind blows where it wishes and you hear its sound, but you do not know from where it comes and where it goes. Thusly are all who are born from of the Spirit.” 9 Nikodemos responded and said to Him: “How can these things be?” 10 Yahshua responded and said to him: “You are a teacher of Israel, and you do not know these things? 11 Truly, truly I say to you, that which we know we speak and that which we have seen we attest to, and you do not receive our testimony! 12 If I speak to you about earthly things and you do not believe, how shall you believe if I would speak to you about heavenly things? 13 Now no one ascends into the heaven except he who has descended from heaven: the Son of Man. 14 And just as Moses had raised the serpent in the desert, thusly it is necessary that the Son of Man be raised, 15 that each who believes in Him would have eternal life. 16 For Yahweh so loved the Society, that He gave the most-beloved Son, in order that each who believes in Him would not be lost but would have eternal life. 17 Indeed, Yahweh has not sent the Son into the Society in order that He would condemn the Society, but in order that the Society would be saved through Him. 18 He believing in Him is not condemned, but he not believing is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the most-beloved Son of Yahweh. 19 Now this is the condemnation: that the light has come into the Society yet men loved the darkness more than the light, since their deeds were evil. 20 For anyone who is practicing bad things hates the light and does not come to the light, that his deeds would not be censured. 21 But he doing the truth comes to the light, in order that his deeds would be made manifest because it is with Yahweh that they have been accomplished.”
22 After these things Yahshua and His students went into the Judaean land and He spent time there with them and He immersed. 23 And Iohannes was immersing in Ainon near Saleim, seeing that many waters were there, and they came by and were immersed 24 (for not yet was Iohannes cast into the prison).
25 Then there came a dispute among some of the students of Iohannes with the Judaeans concerning purification. 26 And they came to Iohannes and said to him: “Rabbi, He who was with you across the Jordan, for whom you testified, look: He immerses and they all come to Him!” 27 Iohannes replied and said: “A man is not able to receive anything if it has not been given to him from heaven. 28 You yourselves bear testimony for me that I said that I am not the Christ, but that I am being sent before Him! 29 He having the bride is the bridegroom, but the friend of the bridegroom who stands and hears him rejoices in joy because of the voice of the bridegroom! Therefore this, my joy, is fulfilled. 30 It is necessary for Him to be augmented, and for me to be diminished.
31 He coming from above is above all. He being from the earth is of the earth and speaks from of the earth. He coming from heaven is above all. 32 That which He has seen and heard, this He attests, and no one receives His testimony. 33 He receiving His testimony has assured that Yahweh is true! 34 For He whom Yahweh has sent speaks the words of Yahweh, indeed He does not give the Spirit by measure. 35 The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand. 36 He believing in the Son has eternal life. But he disobeying the Son does not see life. Rather the wrath of Yahweh waits for him!
IV 1 Therefore as Yahshua had become aware that the Pharisees heard that “Yahshua makes and immerses more students than Iohannes” 2 (even though Yahshua Himself has not immersed, but His students), 3 He left Judaea, and departed again for Galilaia.
4 And it was necessary for Him to pass through Samareia. 5 So He comes to a city of Samareia called Suchar, near the land which Jakob had given to his son Ioseph. 6 And there was a well of Jakob’s there. Then Yahshua being tired from the journey sat thusly by the well. It was about the sixth hour. 7 A woman of Samareia comes to draw water. Yahshua says to her: “Give Me to drink.” 8 (For His students had gone off to the city that they may buy food.) 9 Then the Samaritan woman says to Him: “You being a Judaean, how do You request from me, being a Samaritan woman, to drink? For the Judaeans have no dealings with the Samaritans!” 10 Yahshua replied and said to her: “If you knew the gift of Yahweh and who it is saying to you ‘Give Me to drink’, you would have asked Him and He would have given to you living water.” 11 The woman says to Him: “Master, You do not even have a bucket and the well is deep, so from where do You have living water? 12 Are You greater than our father Jakob, who gave us the well and had drank from it himself, with his sons and his cattle?” 13 Yahshua responded and said to her: “Each who is drinking from this water shall thirst again. 14 But he who should drink from the water which I shall give to him shall not thirst for eternity, but the water which I shall give to him will become in him a well of water springing up into eternal life.” 15 The woman says to Him “Master, give this water to me, that I shall not thirst nor pass by here to draw!” 16 He says to her “Go, call your husband, and come here!” 17 The woman replied and said to Him: “I do not have a husband.” Yahshua says to her “You have spoken well that ‘I do not have a husband’, 18 for you have had five husbands and now he whom you have is not your husband! By this you spoke the truth!” 19 The woman says to Him: “Master, I see that You are a prophet! 20 Our fathers have worshipped on this mountain, yet do You say that in Jerusalem is the place where it is necessary to worship?” 21 Yahshua says to her: “Believe Me, woman, that the hour comes when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem shall you worship the Father! 22 You worship that which you do not know. We worship that which we know, because salvation is from among the Judaeans. 23 But the hour comes and is now, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father also seeks such as those worshipping Him. 24 Yahweh is a Spirit, and for those worshipping Him it is necessary to worship in spirit and in truth.” 25 The woman says to Him: “I know that Messiah comes, who is called Christ. When He should come, He shall announce to us all things.” 26 Yahshua says to her: “I am He, who is speaking to you.”
27 And with this His students had come, and they wondered that He had spoken with a woman, yet no one said “What do You seek?” or “Why do You speak with her?” 28 Then the woman left her water and went off to the city and says to the men: “Come, see a man who has told me all things whatever I had done! Could it be that He is the Christ?” 30 So they came out of the city and came to Him.
31 In the meantime His students asked Him saying: “Rabbi, eat!” 32 But He said to them: “I have food to eat which you do not know.” 33 Then the students said to one another “Has anyone brought for Him to eat?” 34 Yahshua says to them: “My food is that I shall do the will of He who has sent Me and that I shall finish His work. 35 Do you not say that ‘There are still four months and the harvest comes’? Behold, I say to you: lift up your eyes and see the fields, that they are already white for harvest! 36 He reaping receives a wage, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that he sowing and he reaping would rejoice together. 37 For in this the word is true: that it is one who sows and another who reaps. 38 I have sent you to reap for that which you did not labor. Others labored and you entered in for their labor.
39 And from that city many of the Samaritans had believed in Him through the word of testimony of the woman that “He told me all the things which I had done!” 40 Therefore as the Samaritans came to Him, having asked Him to stay with them, then He stayed there for two days. 41 And with many more they believed through His word, 42 and they had said to the woman that “No longer do we believe because of your speech, for we ourselves have heard and we know that He is truly the Savior of the Society!”
43 And after two days He had departed from there for Galilaia. 44 For Yahshua Himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own fatherland. 45 Therefore when He came into Galilaia, the Galilaians all welcomed Him, who had seen how many things He had done in Jerusalem at the feast, for they also had come to the feast.
46 Then He went again to Kana of Galilaia, where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain officer of the king whose son in Kapharnaoum was sick. 47 He hearing that Yahshua had come from Judaea into Galilaia had gone after Him and requested that He would come down and heal his son, for he was about to die. 48 Therefore Yahshua said to him: “Unless you could see signs and wonders, you shall not believe!” 49 The officer of the king says to Him: “Master, You must come down, before my child dies!” 50 Yahshua says to him: “You go, your son lives!” The man trusted in the word which Yahshua spoke to him and he went. 51 And already going down his servants met with him saying that his child lives. 52 Therefore he inquired about the hour from them, in which he had gotten better. So they said to him that “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever had left him”. 53 Then the father knew, because it was at that hour in which Yahshua said to him “Your son lives!” And he himself believed, and his whole household. 54 Now this again is the second sign Yahshua made having come from Judaea into Galilaia. V 1 After these things there was a feast of the Judaeans, and Yahshua went up to Jerusalem.
2 And there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep’s Gate a pool called by name in Hebrew “Bethzatha”, having five porches. 3 Upon these laid a multitude of the sick, blind, lame, gaunt. 5 And there was a certain man there having his sickness for thirty-eight years. 6 Yahshua seeing him laying down and having known that he has much time there already, says to him: “Do you wish to be made healthy?” 7 The sick man replied to Him: “Master, I have no man, that when the water is agitated he would cast me into the pool. But by the time I come, another descends before me!” 8 Yahshua says to him “Arise, take your cot, and walk!” 9 And immediately the man became healthy and took his cot and walked.
And it was a Sabbath on that day, 10 therefore the Judaeans said to the healed man: “It is a Sabbath, and it is not allowed for you to carry your cot.” 11 And he replied to them: “He who made me healthy said to me ‘Take your cot and walk!’” 12 They asked him: “Who is the man having said to you ‘Take it and walk’?” 13 But the cured man did not know who He is, for Yahshua swam out of the crowd which is in that place. 14 After these things Yahshua finds him in the temple and said to him: “Look, you have become healthy! Sin no longer, lest something worse should happen to you.” 15 The man departed and reported to the Judaeans that Yahshua is He having made him healthy. 16 And for this reason the Judaeans pursued Yahshua, because He did these things on the Sabbath.
17 Then Yahshua replied to them: “My Father labors until now, and I labor!” 18 Then for this reason still more the Judaeans sought to kill Him, because not only did He break the Sabbath, but also said that Yahweh is His own Father, making Himself equal with Yahweh.
19 Therefore Yahshua replied and said to them: “Truly, truly I say to you, the Son is not able to do anything by Himself except what He sees the Father doing. For the things which He would do, these things also the Son does likewise. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all things which He Himself does. And He shall show Him greater works than these, that you may be astonished! 21 For just as the Father raises and makes the dead to live, thusly also the Son makes live whom He wishes. 22 For neither does the Father judge anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son, 23 in order that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He not honoring the Son would not honor the Father who has sent Him.
“24 Truly, truly I say to you that he hearing My Word and believing in He who has sent Me has eternal life and does not come to judgment, but has passed from death into life! 25 Truly, truly I say to you that the hour comes and is now, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of Yahweh and those hearing shall live! 26 For just as the Father has life in Himself, thusly also He has given the Son to have life in Himself. 27 And He has given authority to Him to make judgment, because He is the Son of Man. 28 Do not be astonished at this, because the hour comes in which all those in the tombs shall hear His voice, 29 and they shall go forth: those having done good things to a resurrection of life, but those having practiced wicked things to a resurrection of judgment.
“30 I am not able to do anything by Myself. Just as I hear, I judge, and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of He who has sent Me. 31 If I should give testimony concerning Myself, My testimony is not true. 32 It is another who is testifying concerning Me, and I know that the testimony is true which he testifies concerning Me. 33 You sent to Iohannes, and he testified to the truth. 34 Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I speak these things in order that you may be preserved. 35 He was a lamp burning and shining, and you had desired for awhile to rejoice in his light.
“36 But I have testimony greater than Iohannes, for the works which the Father gave to Me in order that I shall complete them, those same works which I should do testify concerning Me, that the Father sent Me! 37 And the Father who has sent Me, He testified concerning Me! And you have not ever yet heard His voice, nor have you seen His form, 38 and you do not have His Word abiding in you, because He whom He has sent, in Him you do not believe! 39 You must examine the writings, because you suppose by them to have eternal life, and these are they which testify concerning Me. 40 Yet you do not wish to come to Me in order that you would have life.
“41 I would not receive an opinion from men, 42 but I know you, that you do not have the love of Yahweh in yourselves. 43 I have come in the Name of My Father, and you do not receive Me. If perhaps another would come in his own name, him you would receive. 44 How are you able to believe an opinion being received from each other, and the opinion from the One and Only you do not seek?
“45 Do not suppose that I shall accuse you before the Father. There is one who is accusing you: Moses, in whom you have hope. 46 For if you had believed in Moses, you would have believed in Me, for he had written concerning Me. 47 But if in his writings you do not believe, how shall you believe My words?”
VI 1 After these things Yahshua departed across the sea of Galilaia from Tiberias, 2 and a great crowd followed Him, because they had observed the signs which he made for those who were sick. 3 Then Yahshua went up into the mountain and sat there with His students. 4 Now it was near the Passover, the feast of the Judaeans.
5 Then Yahshua raising His eyes and observing that a great crowd comes to Him, says to Philippos: “From where could we buy bread, that they may eat?” 6 But He said this trying him, for He knew what He was going to do. 7 Philippos replied to Him: “Two hundred denarions’ worth of loaves are not sufficient for them, that each would receive a little!” 8 One of His students, Andreas the brother of Simon Petros, says to Him: “9 There is a young boy here who has five barley loaves and two fishes, but what are these for so many?” 10 Yahshua said “Cause the men to recline.” Now there was much grass at the place. Then the men reclined, the number being about five thousand. 11 Then Yahshua took the loaves and giving thanks distributed equally to those reclining, and as much as they desired of the fishes. 12 Then as they were satiated, He says to His students: “Gather the excess fragments, that not anything is lost.” 13 So they gathered and had filled twelve baskets of fragments from the five barley loaves which had been left over by those who had eaten. 14 Then the men, seeing the sign which He had made, said that “this is truly the Prophet who is coming into the Society!” 15 Then Yahshua, knowing that they were going to come and to seize Him in order that they would make Him king, He alone withdrew back into the mountain.
16 Now as it was late, His students went down to the sea 17 and boarding into a vessel they went across the sea to Kapharnaoum. And already it had become dark, and Yahshua had not yet come to them, 18 and the sea was stirred up, a great wind blowing. 19 Then having sailed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they observe Yahshua walking upon the sea and coming near the vessel, and they feared. 20 Then He says to them: “I am. Do not be afraid.” 21 Then they wanted to take Him into the vessel, and immediately the vessel came upon the land to which they were going.
22 On the next day the crowd which stood across the sea had seen that there was not another boat there except one, and that Yahshua had not entered together with His students into the vessel, but only His students had departed. 23 But vessels came from Tiberias, near the place where they ate the bread giving thanks to Yahweh. 24 Therefore when the crowd had seen that Yahshua is not there, nor His students, they themselves boarded into the boats and came to Kapharnaoum seeking Yahshua. 25 And finding Him across the sea they said to Him “Rabbi, when did You arrive here?”
26 Yahshua replied to them and said: “Truly, truly I say to you, you seek Me not because you have seen signs, but because you have eaten of the loaves and have been satiated! 27 You must work not for that food which perishes but for that food which abides for eternal life, which the Son of Man shall give to you. Indeed Yahweh the Father has confirmed Him!” 28 Then they said to Him “What should we do that we may accomplish the works of Yahweh?” 29 Yahshua replied and said to them: “This is the work of Yahweh: that you would believe in Him whom He sent!”
30 Then they said to Him: “Then what sign do You do, in order that we would see and we may believe in You? What could You accomplish? 31 Our fathers ate the manna in the desert, just as it is written: ‘bread from heaven He had given them to eat.’” 32 Then Yahshua said to them: “Truly, truly I say to you, Moses did not give to you bread from heaven, but My Father gives to you the true bread from heaven! 33 For the bread of Yahweh is He descending from heaven and giving life to the Society!” 34 Then they said to Him: “Prince, always give to us this bread!” 35 Yahshua said to them: “I am the bread of life! He coming to Me shall not hunger, and he believing in Me shall not ever thirst!
“36 But I have said to you that even you have seen Me and you do not believe. 37 Each whom the Father gives to Me shall come to Me, and he coming to Me I shall not cast outside, 38 because I have descended from heaven not in order that I would do that of My will, but the will of He who has sent Me. 39 This is the will of He who has sent Me: That each of them who are given to Me I shall not destroy, but I shall resurrect them in the last day. 40 For this is the will of My Father: that each who seeing the Son and believing in Him would have eternal life, and I shall resurrect him in the last day.
41 Then the Judaeans muttered concerning Him because He said “I am the bread which descends from heaven”, 42 and they said “Is this not Yahshua the son of Ioseph, whose father and mother we know? How now does He say that “I have descended from heaven’?” 43 Yahshua replied and said to them: “Do not mutter among one another. 44 No one is able to come to Me unless the Father who has sent Me should compel him, and I shall resurrect him in the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets, ‘And they all shall be taught by Yahweh.” All who hearing from Yahweh and learning come to Me. 46 Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who being from Yahweh, he has seen the Father. 47 Truly, truly I say to you, he believing in Me has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life! 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the desert and they died. 50 This is the bread which is descending from heaven, that one may eat from it and would not die. 51 I am the living bread which has descended from heaven. If one would eat from this bread, he shall live for eternity. But also the bread which I shall give is My flesh in behalf of the life of the Society!”
52 Then the Judaeans disputed with one another saying “How is He able to give to us His flesh to eat?” 53 Therefore Yahshua said to them: “Truly, truly I say to you, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have not life in yourselves! 54 He eating My flesh and drinking My blood has eternal life, and I shall resurrect him in the last day! 55 For My flesh is the true food, and My blood is the true drink. 56 He eating My flesh and drinking My blood abides in Me and I in him. 57 Just as the living Father has sent Me and I live through the Father, he who is eating Me, he also shall live through Me. 58 This is the bread which has descended from heaven, not as the fathers ate and they died. He eating this bread shall live for eternity!”
59 He spoke these things teaching in the assembly hall in Kapharnaoum. 60 Then many of His students listening said “This is a hard saying. Who is able to understand it?” 61 And Yahshua, within Himself knowing that His students muttered concerning this, said to them: “This offends you? 62 Then if you should observe the Son of Man ascending where He was before? 63 It is the Spirit which produces life, the flesh does not benefit anything. The words which I have spoken to you are Spirit and are life. 64 But some from among you are they who do not believe.” (For Yahshua knew from the beginning who they who do not believe are, and who it is who shall betray Him.) 65 And He said: “For this reason I said to you that no one is able to come to Me unless it should be given to him from the Father.”
66 With this many from among His students departed for the former things and no longer walked with Him. 67 Therefore Yahshua said to the twelve: “Do you not also wish to go away?” 68 Simon Petros replied to Him: “Prince, to what shall we depart? You have the words of life, 69 and we believe and know that You are the Holy One of Yahweh!” 70 Yahshua replied to them: “Have I not chosen you twelve? Yet one from among you is a false accuser!” 71 (Now He spoke about Ioudas the son of Simon Iskarioth, for he was going to betray Him, being one of the twelve.)
VII 1 And after these things Yahshua walked about in Galilaia. For He did not desire to walk in Judaea, because the Judaeans sought to kill Him.
2 Now it was near the Tabernacles feast of the Judaeans. 3 Therefore His brothers said to Him: “You must cross over from here and go into Judaea in order that Your students also shall see Your works which You do. 4 For no one does anything in secret yet seeks it to be before the public. If you do these things, make Yourself known to the Society!” 5 (For not even His brothers believed in Him.) 6 Then Yahshua says to them: “My time is not yet here, but your time is always at hand. 7 The Society is not able to hate you, but it hates Me, because I testify concerning it, that its works are evil! 8 You go up to the feast. Not yet do I go up to this feast, because My time is not yet fulfilled.” 9 Then having said these things He Himself remained in Galilaia.
10 But as His brothers went up to the feast, then He also went up, not openly but as if in secret. 11 Then the Judaeans sought Him at the feast and said “Where is He?” 12 And there was much murmuring concerning Him among the crowds. Some indeed said that He is good, but others said “No! Rather He would deceive the people!” 13 Of course no one had spoke publicly concerning Him due to fear of the Judaeans.
14 And it already being in the middle of the feast Yahshua went up into the temple and taught. 15 Then the Judaeans wondered saying “How does He know literature, not being instructed?” 16 Then Yahshua replied to them and said “My teaching is not Mine, but of He who sent Me! 17 If one wishes to do His will, he shall know concerning the teaching, whether it is from Yahweh or I speak by Myself. 18 He speaking by himself seeks his own honor, but he seeking the honor of He who has sent him, he is true and there is no injustice in him.
“19 Has Moses not given you the law? And not one from among you keeps the law! Why do you seek to kill Me?” 20 The crowd responded “You have a demon! Who seeks to kill You?” 21 Yahshua replied and said to them “I have done one deed and you all marvel. 22 For this reason Moses gave you the circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers) and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath. 23 If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath in order that the law of Moses would not be broken, are you angry with Me that I have made a man entirely healthy on the Sabbath? 24 Do not judge by sight, but judge a righteous judgment.”
25 Then some of those from Jerusalem said: “Is this not He whom they seek to kill? 26 And look, He speaks freely and they say nothing to Him! Perhaps the rulers really know that this is the Christ! 27 But we know where this man is from, yet when the Christ should come, no one knows where He is from.” 28 Then Yahshua cried out teaching in the temple and saying: “You not only know Me, you also know where I am from! And I have not spoken by Myself, but He who has sent Me is truthful, whom you do not know! 29 I know Him, because I am from Him and He has sent Me!” 30 Then they sought to seize Him, yet no one laid a hand upon Him, because His hour had not yet come.
31 Then many from the crowd believed in Him and they said “When the Christ comes shall He do greater signs than those which this man has done?” 32 The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning Him, and the high priests and the Pharisees sent deputies that they may seize Him. 33 Then Yahshua said: “I am with you for a short time yet, then I go to He who has sent Me. 34 You shall seek Me, and shall not find Me, and where I am you are not able to come.” 35 Therefore the Judaeans said to themselves “Where is He about to go that we shall not find Him? Is He about to go to the dispersion of the Greeks and teach the Greeks? 36 What is this word which He said, ‘You shall seek Me, and shall not find Me, and where I am you are not able to come’?”
37 Then on the great last day of the feast Yahshua stood and cried out saying “If one thirsts he must come to Me and drink! 38 He believing in Me, just as the writing says, rivers of living water shall flow from his belly!” 39 (Now this He spoke concerning the spirit which those believing in Him were going to receive. For not yet was the spirit, because Yahshua had not as yet been magnified.)
40 Then those from the crowd understanding these words said “He is truly a prophet!” 41 Others said “He is the Christ!” But some said “Really, does the Christ come from Galilaia? 42 Did the writing not say that the Christ comes from the offspring of David and from Bethlehem where David was?” 43 Therefore there was a division among the crowd because of Him. 44 Then some from among them desired to seize Him, but no one laid the hands upon Him.
45 Then the deputies went to the high priests and the Pharisees, and they said to them “For what reason have you not brought Him?” 46 The deputies replied: “Not ever has a man spoken in this way!” 47 Therefore the Pharisees replied to them: “Are you also deceived? 48 Has anyone from among the rulers or from among the Pharisees believed in Him? 49 But this crowd, not knowing the law, they are accursed!” 50 Nikodemos says to them (he having come to Him earlier, being one of them): 51 “Does our law judge a man unless it first hears from him and would know what he does?” 52 They replied and said to him: “Are you also from Galilaia? Enquire, and see that a prophet has not arisen out of Galilaia!”
VIII 12 Then again Yahshua spoke to them saying “I am the light of the Society. He following Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life!” 13 Then the Pharisees said to Him: “You testify concerning Yourself! Your testimony is not true!” 14 Yahshua replied and said to them: “Even if I testify concerning Myself, My testimony is true, because I know from where I have come and where I go. But you do not know from where I come or where I go. 15 You judge in accordance with the flesh. I judge no one. 16 But then even if I judge, My judgment is truth, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent Me! 17 Now it is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true. 18 I am He testifying concerning Myself and the Father who sent Me testifies concerning Me!” 19 Therefore they said to Him: “Where is Your Father?” Yahshua replied: “You know neither Me nor My Father! If you had known Me, you also would have known My Father!” 20 He had spoken these words by the treasury, teaching in the temple. Yet no one seized Him, because His hour had not yet come.
21 Then He spoke to them again: “I go and you shall seek Me, and you shall die in your error! Where I go you are not able to come.” 22 Therefore the Judaeans said “Perhaps He shall kill Himself, that He says ‘Where I go you are not able to come’?” 23 And He said to them: “You are from of those below; I am from of those above. You are from of this Society; I am not from of this Society. 24 Now I said to you that you shall die in your errors. For if you do not believe that I am, you shall die in your errors!” 25 Then they said to Him: “Who are You?” Yahshua said to them: “What is it which I also say to you from the beginning? 26 I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who has sent Me is true, and the things which I hear from Him, these things I say to the Society.” 27 (They did not perceive that He spoke to them by the Father.) 28 Then Yahshua said that “When you raise up the Son of Man, then you shall know that I am, and I do nothing by Myself, but just as the Father has taught Me, these things I say. 29 And He who has sent Me is with Me, He has not left Me alone, because I always do the things which please Him!”
30 Upon His saying these things many believed in Him. 31 Therefore Yahshua said to those Judaeans who believed Him: “If you abide in My Word, truly you are My students, 32 and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” 33 They replied to Him: “We are offspring of Abraham, and to no one have we been in bondage ever yet! How do you say that we shall be made free?” 34 Yahshua replied to them “Truly, truly I say to you that he causing wrongdoing is a servant of wrongdoing. 35 Now a servant does not abide in the house forever. A son abides forever. 36 Therefore if the Son shall set you free, you shall certainly be free!
“37 I know that you are offspring of Abraham, but you seek to kill Me because My Word has no place in you. 38 The things which I have seen from the Father I speak; so also you, the things which you have heard from your father you do.” 39 They replied and said to Him: “Our father is Abraham!” Yahshua says to them: “If you are children of Abraham, you would have done the works of Abraham! 40 But now you seek to kill Me, a man whom has spoken to you the truth which I have heard from Yahweh. This Abraham has not done. 41 You do the works of your father!” Then they said to Him: “We were not born of fornication! We have one father, Yahweh!” 42 Yahshua said to them: “If Yahweh was your father you would have loved Me, for I have come from of Yahweh and am here. I have not come by Myself, but He has sent Me. 43 For what reason do you not perceive My speech? Because you are not able to hear My Word! 44 You are the sons of a father: the False Accuser! And you wish to do the desires of your father! He was a murderer from the beginning and did not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him! When he speaks a lie, he speaks from of his own devices, because he is a liar and the father of it! 45 Now because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 Who from among you censures Me concerning wrongdoing? If I speak truth, for what reason do you not believe Me? 47 He who is from of Yahweh hears the words of Yahweh. For this reason you do not hear, because you are not from of Yahweh!”
48 The Judaeans replied and said to Him: “Do we not speak well, that You are a Samaritan and You have a demon?” 49 Yahshua replied: “I do not have a demon! Rather I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me. 50 Now I do not seek credit for Me; it is He seeking and judging. 51 Truly, truly I say to you, if one would keep My Word, he would not see death for eternity!” 52 Then the Judaeans said to Him: “Now we know that You have a demon! Abraham died, and the prophets, yet You say ‘If one would keep My Word, he shall not taste of death for eternity’? 53 Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! What do You make of Yourself?” 54 Yahshua replied: “If I would honor Myself, My honor is nothing! It is the Father who is honoring Me, whom you say that ‘He is our God’. 55 Yet you do not know Him, but I know Him. And if I should say that I do not know Him, I shall be a liar like you! But I know Him and I keep His Word. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see My day, and he has seen and is delighted.” 57 Then the Judaeans said to Him: “You do not yet have fifty years, and You have seen Abraham?” 58 Yahshua said to them: “Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I am!” 59 Then they took up stones in order that they would cast them at Him, but He hid and departed from the temple.
IX 1 And passing by He saw a man who was blind from birth. 2 And His students asked Him, saying “Rabbi, who has done wrong, this man or his parents, that he should be born blind?” 3 Yahshua replied: “Neither has this man done wrong nor his parents, but so that the works of Yahweh would be manifest by him. 4 It is necessary for us to accomplish the works of He who has sent Me while it is day; when the night comes no one is able to work. 5 Whenever I may be in the Society, I am the light of the Society!” 6 Saying these things He had spat on the ground and made a clay out of the spit and smeared him with the clay upon the eyes. 7 And He said to him: “Go wash in the pool of Siloam (which is translated ‘Sent’).” Then he departed and washed and came seeing. 8 Then the neighbors and those having observed him before, because he was a beggar, said “Is this man not he who sits and begs?” 9 Others said that “It is he!” Others said “No, but he is like him.” The man said that “I am!” 10 Therefore they said to him “Then how have your eyes been opened?” 11 He replied: “The man who is called Yahshua made clay and smeared it on my eyes and said to me that ‘Go to Siloam and wash’. Then departing and washing I saw!” 12 And they said to him “Where is He?” He says “I do not know.”
13 They brought him who was once blind to the Pharisees. 14 Now it was a Sabbath on the day which Yahshua had made the clay and opened his eyes. 15 Then again the Pharisees also were asking how he now saw. And he said to them “He smeared clay on my eyes and I washed myself and I see!” 16 Then some from among the Pharisees said “This man is not from Yahweh, because He does not keep the Sabbath!” But others said “How is a sinful man able to do signs such as these?” And there was division among them. 17 Then they again said to the blind man “What do you say concerning Him, that He opened your eyes?” So he said that “He is a prophet!”
18 Therefore the Judaeans did not believe it concerning him, that he was blind and now saw, until when they had called the parents of him whose sight had been restored. 19 And they asked them, saying “Is this your son, whom you say that he had been born blind? So how does he now see?” 20 Therefore his parents responded and said “We know that he is our son and that he had been born blind. 21 But how he sees now we do not know, or who has opened his eyes we do not know. You ask him. He is mature, he may speak concerning himself.” 22 His parents said these things because they feared the Judaeans. For already the Judaeans agreed that if one should profess Him as Christ, he would be put out of the assembly hall. 23 For this reason his parents said that “He is mature, you question him”.
24 Therefore they called the man who was blind for a second time and said to him “You must give the honor to Yahweh, we know that this man is a wrongdoer!” 25 Then he replied: “I do not know if He is a wrongdoer. One thing I do know, that being blind now I see!” 26 Therefore they said to him: “What has He done to you? How have your eyes been opened?” 27 He replied to them “I told you already and you did not hear! Why again do you wish to hear? Do you also wish to become His students?” 28 And they abused him and said “You are a student of that man, but we are students of Moses! 29 We know that Yahweh spoke to Moses, but we do not know where He is from!” 30 The man replied and said to them “For in this is a wondrous thing, that you do not know where He is from, yet He opened my eyes! 31 We know that Yahweh does not hear wrongdoers, but if one should be reverent and would do His will, that man He hears. 32 From of old it has not been heard that the eyes of one born blind have been opened! 33 Unless this man were from Yahweh, He is not able to do anything!” 34 They replied and said to him: “You were born entirely in sin and you teach us?” And they cast him outside.
35 Yahshua heard that they cast him out and finding him said “Do you have faith in the Son of Man?” 36 He replied and said “And who is He, Master, that I should have faith in Him?” 37 Yahshua said to him: “You have both seen Him, and it is He who is speaking with you.” 38 Then he said “I do believe, Master!” And He worshipped Him.
39 And Yahshua said: “For judgment I have come into this Society, that those not seeing would see and those seeing would be made blind!” 40 Some of the Pharisees being with Him heard these things and they said to Him “Are we also blind?” 41 Yahshua said to them: “If you were blind, you would not have fault. But now you say that ‘We see’, your fault remains!
X “1 Truly, truly I say to you, he not entering through the door into the pen of the sheep, but going up from another place, that man is a thief and a robber. 2 But he entering through the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 For him the doorman opens and the sheep hear his voice and he calls his own sheep by name and he leads them out. 4 When all of his own go out, he goes before them and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice. 5 Yet they shall not follow another, but flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6 Yahshua spoke this parable to them, but they did not know what these things were which He spoke to them.
7 Therefore Yahshua spoke again: “Truly, truly I say to you that I am the door of the sheep! 8 All as many as have come before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the door! If one should enter by Me he shall be preserved and shall enter in and shall go out and he shall find pasture. 10 The thief does not come except that he may steal and slaughter and destroy. I have come in order that they would have life and they would have abundance!
“11 I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life on behalf of the sheep! 12 The hired hand, who also not being the shepherd, of whom the sheep are not his own, watches the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf seizes and scatters them, 13 because he is a hired hand and there is no care in him concerning the sheep!
“14 I am the Good Shepherd and I know Mine and Mine know Me, 15 just as the Father know Me and I know the Father, and I lay down My life on behalf of the sheep. 16 And I have other sheep which are not from this pen, and these it is necessary for Me to bring and they shall hear My voice, and they shall be one flock, one shepherd.
“17 For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life in order that I would receive it again. 18 No one takes it from Me. Rather I lay it down by Myself. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to receive it again. This command I have received from My Father.”
19 There was division again among the Judaeans on account of these words. 20 Then many from among them said “He is mad and has a demon! Why do you listen to Him?” 21 Others said “These are not the words of one possessed by a demon! Is a demon able to open the eyes of the blind?”
22 Then there was the feast of dedication in Jerusalem – it was winter – 23 and Yahshua walked about in the temple on the porch of Solomon. 24 Then the Judaeans surrounded Him and said to Him: “How long do You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, speak to us openly!” 25 Yahshua replied to them: “I have spoken to you and you do not believe! The works which I do in the name of My Father, these things testify concerning Me. 26 But you do not believe, because you are not My sheep! 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them and they follow Me, 28 and I give to them eternal life and they are not lost forever and one shall not snatch them from My hand. 29 My Father who gave them to Me is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them from the hand of the Father! 30 I and the Father are One!”
31 Again the Judaeans took up stones that they would stone Him. 32 Yahshua replied to them: “Many good works have I shown you from of the Father. Of those, because of what sort of work do you stone Me?” 33 The Judaeans replied to Him: “We do not stone You on account of a good work but on account of blasphemy, and because You being a man make Yourself a god!” 34 Yahshua replied to them: “Is it not written in your law that ‘I have said, Ye are gods’? 35 If He spoke of them as gods to whom the Word of Yahweh had come, and the writing is not able to be broken, 36 He whom the Father has sanctified and sent into the Society, you tell that ‘You blaspheme’, because I said I am a son of Yahweh? 37 If I do not do the works of My Father, you should not believe Me. 38 But if I do, even if in Me you would not believe, you should believe in the works, that you must know and understand that the Father is with Me and I with the Father!” 39 Therefore they again sought to seize Him, yet He got away from their hand.
40 And He departed again across the Jordan to the place where Iohannes was first immersing and He abode there. 41 And many came to Him and said that “Indeed Iohannes made not one sign, but all whatever Iohannes said concerning this man was true!” 42 And many there believed in Him.
XI 1 And there was a certain sick man, Lazaros from Bethania, from of the town of Mariam and her sister Martha. 2 Now it was Mariam who anointed the Prince with ointment and wiped off His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazaros was sick. 3 Therefore the sisters sent to Him saying “Prince, behold, he whom You are fond of is sick!” 4 Then hearing Yahshua said “This sickness is not to result in death, but is for the honor of Yahweh, in order that the Son of Yahweh is magnified on account of it!” 5 Now Yahshua loved Martha and her sister and Lazaros. 6 Therefore as He heard that he is sick, then at that time He remained in that place where He was for two days, 7 whereupon after this He says to the students: “We should go into Judaea again.” 8 The students say to Him “Rabbi, now the Judaeans sought to stone You, yet again You go there?” 9 Yahshua replied “Are there not twelve hours in a day? If one should walk in the day, he does not stumble because he sees the light of this order. 10 But if one should walk in the night, he stumbles because the light is not with him.”
11 He spoke these things, and after this He says to them: “Lazaros our friend sleeps! But I shall go that I shall awaken him.” 12 Then the students said to Him: “Prince, if he sleeps, he shall be preserved.” 13 Now Yahshua spoke concerning his death, but they supposed that He speaks concerning the sleep of slumber. 14 So then Yahshua said to them frankly: “Lazaros has died, 15 yet I rejoice on account of you, that you shall have faith, because I was not there, but we must go to him.” 16 Then Thomas, who is called Twin, said to the fellow students: “Must we also go, that we may die with him?”
17 Then coming Yahshua found him having already been in the tomb for four days. 18 Now Bethania was close to Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia, 19 and many of those of the Judaeans had come to Martha and Mariam in order that they may comfort them concerning the brother. 20 Then as Martha heard that Yahshua comes she went to meet Him, but Mariam sat in the house. 21 Then Martha said to Yahshua: “Prince, if You were here my brother would not have died! 22 But even now I know that whatever You should ask Yahweh, Yahweh shall give to You!” 23 Yahshua says to her: “Your brother shall be resurrected.” 24 Martha says to Him: “I know that he shall be resurrected in the resurrection on the last day!” 25 Yahshua said to her: “I am the Resurrection and the Life. He believing in Me shall live even if he may die, 26 and each who lives and believes in Me shall not die forever. Do you believe this?” 27 She says to Him: “Yes, Prince! I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of Yahweh coming into Society!” 28 And saying this she departed and called Mariam her sister, saying secretly: “The Teacher is present and calls you!” 29 Then as she heard, she arose quickly and went to Him. 30 Not yet then had Yahshua come into the town, but He was still in the place where Martha had met Him. 31 Then the Judaeans who being with her in the house and comforting her, seeing that Mariam arose quickly and departed, followed her supposing that she goes to the tomb that she may weep there.
32 Therefore as Mariam came to where Yahshua was, seeing Him she fell at His feet saying to Him: “Prince, if You were here my brother would not have died!” 33 Then as Yahshua saw her weeping, and the Judaeans having come with her weeping, He was deeply moved in Spirit and Himself disturbed 34 and said “Where have you laid him?” They said to Him “Prince, come and look!” 35 Yahshua shed tears, 36 therefore the Judaeans said “See how He has affection for him!” 37 Then some from among them said: “Was He not able, who opens the eyes of the blind, to make it that also this man would not die?”
38 Then Yahshua, again being deeply moved within Himself, comes to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone laid upon it. 39 Yahshua says “Remove the stone!” Martha, the sister of he who is dead, says to Him “Prince, he already smells, for it is the fourth day!” 40 Yahshua says to her “Did I not say to you that if you would believe, you shall see the splendor of Yahweh?” 41 Therefore they removed the stone. Then Yahshua lifted the eyes up and said “Father, I am thankful to You that You have heard Me. 42 Now I have known that You always hear Me, but on account of the crowd which is present have I spoken, that they may believe that You have sent Me.” 43 And saying these things He cried out with a great voice: “Lazaros, come out!” 44 The dead man came out bound at the feet and hands with swathing bandages and his face wrapped with a cloth. Yahshua says to them: “Untie him and let him go.”
45 Then many from among the Judaeans, they having come to Mariam and observing the things which He had done, believed in Him. 46 Then some from among them went off to the Pharisees and told them the things which Yahshua had done.
47 Then the high priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said “What do we do, seeing that this man makes many signs? 48 If we should leave Him thusly, they shall all believe in Him, and the Romans shall come and they shall take both our place and our nation!” 49 Then a certain one from among them, Kaiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them: “You do not know anything, 50 nor do you consider that it is advantageous to you that one man should die on behalf of the people, and the whole nation not be lost.” 51 (Yet he did not say this by himself, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Yahshua was about to die on behalf of the nation, 52 and not only on behalf of the nation, but that also He would gather into one the children of Yahweh who had been dispersed.) 53 Therefore from that day they determined that they would kill Him.
54 Therefore Yahshua no longer walked openly among the Judaeans, but departed from there to a place near the desert, to a city called Ephraim, and there He remained with the students.
55 Now it was near the Passover of the Judaeans, and many went up to Jerusalem from the countryside before the Passover that they may sanctify themselves. 56 Therefore they sought Yahshua and standing in the temple they spoke with each other: “What do you think? That He would not come to the feast?” 57 Then the high priests and the Pharisees had given a command that if anyone may know where He is he should disclose it, in order that they may seize Him.
