I1 Seeing that many have taken in hand to arrange a report concerning those matters fully ascertained among us, 2 just as they who from the beginning having been eyewitnesses and attendants of the Word transmitted them to us, 3 it seemed good also to me, having closely followed from the first in all things accurately, to write to you methodically, most excellent lover of Yahweh, 4 that you may decide concerning the certainty of the accounts which you were taught.
5 There was in the days of Herodas, King of the Judaeans, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abia, and with him a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabet. 6 And they were both righteous before Yahweh, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of Yahweh blamelessly. 7 Yet there was no child for them, because Elisabet was sterile, and they were both advanced in their days.
8 And it came to pass upon his serving in the duty of his division before Yahweh, 9 according to the custom of the priesthood he was assigned the entering into the temple of Yahweh to burn incense. 10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the time of the incense. 11 And there appeared to him a messenger of Yahweh standing at the right side of the altar of the incense. 12 And Zacharias seeing it was troubled and fear fell upon him. 13 And the messenger spoke to him: ?Fear not, Zacharias, since your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elisabet shall produce a son for you and you shall call his name Iohannes. 14 And he will be a joy to you and an exultation. And many shall rejoice upon his birth. 15 For he shall be great before Yahweh, and wine and beer he shall not drink, and he shall be filled of the Holy Spirit yet in the womb of his mother. 16 And many of the sons of Israel shall he turn to Yahweh their God. 17 And he will go on before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the purpose of the just, to make ready a people prepared for Yahweh.? 18 And Zacharias said to the messenger: ?By what shall I know this? For I am an old man and my wife is advanced in her days!? 19 And replying the messenger said to him ?I am Gabriel who stands before Yahweh and have been sent to speak to you and to bring good news of these things to you, 20 and behold! You shall be silent and not able to speak until the day these things happen, because you did not believe my words, which shall be fulfilled in their time.?
21 And the people were expecting Zacharias and wondered at his being delayed in the temple. 22 Then coming out he was not able to speak to them, and they decided that he had seen a vision in the temple, and he was making signs to them, and remained mute. 23 And it happened as the days of his service were fulfilled, he departed for his house. 24 And after those days Elisabet his wife conceived, and concealed herself five months, saying 25 that ?Thusly has Yahweh done to me in the days which He looked to remove my reproach among men.?
26 Then in the sixth month the messenger Gabriel was sent by Yahweh to a city of Galilaia named Nazareth 27 to a virgin promised in marriage to a man whose name was Ioseph, from of the house of David, and the name of the virgin was Mariam. 28 And going in before her the messenger said ?Greetings, favored one, Yahweh is with you!? 29 But upon this saying she was confused and pondered what sort of greeting it could be. 30 And the messenger said to her ?Do not fear, Mariam! For you have found favor before Yahweh. 31 Now behold, you shall conceive in the womb and you shall beget a Son, and you shall call His name Yahshua. 32 He shall be great and He shall be called ?Son of the Highest? and Yahweh God shall give to Him the throne of David His father, 33 and He shall rule over the house of Jakob for the ages, and of His Kingdom there shall be no end!? 34 But Mariam said to the messenger, ?How shall this be, since I have not known a man?? 35 And replying the messenger said to her ?The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you, for which also the Holy One being born shall be called ?Son of Yahweh?. 36 And behold! Elisabet your kinswoman, she also has conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who is called sterile; 37 because not any word is impossible with Yahweh.? 38 And Mariam said: ?Behold the maidservant of Yahweh! May it be with me according to your word!? And the messenger departed from her.
39 And Mariam rose up in those days and went with eagerness to the hill country to a city of Judah, 40 and entered into the house of Zacharias and greeted Elisabet. 41 And it happened as Elisabet heard the greeting of Mariam, the infant in her womb jumped, and Elisabet was filled of the Holy Spirit, 42 and proclaimed with a great cry and said ?Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 And how can this be with me, that the mother of my Prince should come to me? 44 For behold, as the sound of your greeting came into my ears, the infant in my womb jumped in exaltation. 45 And happy is she who believes that there will be a fulfillment of the things spoken to her from Yahweh!?
46 And Mariam said ?Yahweh has magnified my life, 47 and my spirit rejoices in Yahweh my Savior, 48 because He has looked upon the low estate of His servant. For behold, from this time all the generations shall pronounce me happy, 49 because the Powerful One has done greatly by me, and holy is His Name, 50 and His mercy is for generations and generations for those who fear Him. 51 For He has made victory by His arm! He has scattered those who are proud in the thoughts of their hearts! 52 He has deposed potentates from thrones and He has elevated the lowly! 53 Those who hunger He has filled with good things, and those who are rich He has sent away empty. 54 He has come to the aid of His servant Israel, to call mercy into remembrance, 55 just as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring for the age.? 56 So Mariam remained with her for about three months, and returned to her house.
57 Then Elisabet fulfilled the time of her bearing, and gave birth to a son. 58 And her neighbors and kinsmen heard that Yahweh had magnified His mercy with her and they rejoiced with her. 59 And it happened upon the eighth day that they came to circumcise the child and they called him by the name of his father, Zacharias. 60 And replying his mother said ?No, rather he shall be called Iohannes!? 61 Then they said to her that ?There is no one from among your kinsmen who is called by this name.? 62 So they motioned to his father for that which he wished to call him. 63 And requesting a tablet he wrote, saying: ?Iohannes is his name?, and they all wondered. 64 Then his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue, and he spoke praising Yahweh. 65 And fear came upon all those dwelling around them, and the whole account was spoken throughout all the hill country of Judaea. 66 And it was put into the hearts of all of them who heard, saying ?Who then is this child?? And indeed the hand of Yahweh was with him.
67 Then Zacharias his father was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying: 68 ?Blessed is Yahweh the God of Israel, that He has visited and brought about redemption for His people, 69 and has raised a horn of salvation for us in the house of David His servant, 70 just as He spoke through the mouths of His holy prophets from of old: 71 preservation from our enemies and from the hand of all those who hate us! 72 To bring about mercy with our fathers and to call into remembrance His holy covenant, 73 the oath which He swore to Abraham our father, which is given to us: 74 being delivered fearlessly from the hands of our enemies to serve Him 75 in piety and in righteousness before Him for all of our days. 76 And now you, child, shall be called a prophet of the Highest: for you shall go on before the face of Yahweh to prepare His path. 77 For which to give knowledge of salvation to His people by the dismissal of their errors, 78 through the affectionate mercies of our God, by whom dawn visits us from the heights 79 to shine upon those sitting in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet in the way of peace.? 80 And the child grew and was strengthened in spirit, and was in the wilderness until the day of his manifestation to Israel.
II 1 And it happened in those days that there came out a decree from Caesar Augustus to register the whole inhabited world. 2 This first registration happened while Kurenios was governor of Syria. 3 And all had gone to be registered, each to his city. 4 So then Ioseph went up from Galilaia, from the city Nazareth, into Judaea to a city of David which is called Bethlehem, because of his being of the house and family of David, 5 to be registered with Mariam, whom was promised in marriage to him, she being pregnant. 6 And it happened to them while being there that the days of which she was to bear had been fulfilled. 7 And she gave birth to her first-born Son, and swathed Him and laid Him in a feeding-trough, since there was not a place for them at the inn.
8 And there were shepherds in that area, dwelling in the field and keeping a watch by night over their sheep. 9 And a messenger of Yahweh stood over them, and the effulgence of Yahweh shone about them, and they feared a great fear. 10 Then the messenger said to them: ?Do not fear, for behold! I bring to you a message of great joy which is for all the people: 11 That today there has been born to you a Savior, who is the Anointed Prince, in the city of David. 12 And this is a sign for you, you shall find an infant swathed and lying in a feeding-trough.? 13 And suddenly there were with the messenger a multitude of the heavenly army praising Yahweh and saying: 14 ?Honor to Yahweh in the heights, and peace upon the earth among approved men.?
15 And it happened, as the messengers departed from them into the heaven, the shepherds had said to each other ?Indeed we should pass through unto Bethlehem and see this account which happened which Yahweh has made known to us.? 16 And being eager they went, and discovered both Mariam and Ioseph, and the infant lying in the feeding-trough. 17 And seeing it they made known concerning the account which had been spoken to them about this child. 18 And all of those hearing wondered concerning the things being spoken to them by the shepherds. 19 And Mariam kept together all of these words, collecting them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, honoring and praising Yahweh for all which they heard and saw, just as it had been spoken to them.
21 And when eight days were fulfilled for which to circumcise Him then His name was called Yahshua, which He had been called by the messenger before His conception in the womb. 22 And when the days of their purification were fulfilled, according to the law of Moses, they brought Him into Jerusalem to stand before Yahweh, 23 just as it is written in the law of Yahweh that ?every male opening the womb shall be called holy to Yahweh,? 24 and to give an offering according to that spoken in the law of Yahweh, ?a pair of turtle-doves or two young pigeons.?
25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Sumeon and this man was righteous and devout, expecting the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it was forewarned to him by the Holy Spirit, not to see death before he should see the Anointed Prince. 27 And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and in there being introduced to the parents of the child Yahshua, upon their doing that which is according to the custom of the law concerning Him, 28 then he took Him into his arms and praised Yahweh, and said: 29 ?Now release Your servant, Master, in peace according to Your word: 30 Because my eyes have seen Your Salvation, 31 which You have prepared in front of all the people: 32 a light for the revelation of the Nations and honor of Your people Israel!? 33 And His father and mother were wondering at the things being spoken concerning Him. 34 Then Sumeon blessed them and said to Mariam His mother: ?Behold, He is set for a fall and a restoration of many in Israel, and for a sign speaking in opposition. 35 But a sword shall pass through your own soul also, that the reasonings of the hearts of many should be revealed.?
36 Then there was Anna a prophetess, a daughter of Phanouel, from the tribe of Asher. She was advanced greatly in age, living with a husband for seven years from her maidenhood, 37 and she is a widow for as long as eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, serving with fasting and in supplication night and day. 38 And at that hour standing nearby she confessed to Yahweh and spoke concerning Him to all those awaiting redemption in Jerusalem.
39 And as they completed all the things according to the law of Yahweh, they returned into Galilaia to their city Nazareth. 40 And the child grew and was strengthened, being filled with wisdom, and the favor of Yahweh was with Him.
41 And His parents had gone each year into Jerusalem for the feast of Passover. 42 And when He attained twelve years, upon their going up according to the custom of the feast, 43 and having fulfilled the days, upon their returning the child Yahshua had stayed behind in Jerusalem, and His parents knew it not, 44 but they believed Him to be among the travelers. Having gone a day?s journey then they sought Him among the kinsmen and acquaintances. 45 And not finding Him they returned to Jerusalem seeking Him. 46 And after three days passed, they found Him in the temple sitting in the midst of the teachers and listening to them and questioning them. 47 And all those hearing Him were amazed by His intelligence and replies. 48 And seeing Him they were astonished, and His mother said to Him ?Child, why have You done thusly to us? Behold, Your father and I travailing have sought You!? 49 And He said to them: ?Why have you sought Me? Do you not know that it is necessary for Me to be engaged in the matters of My Father?? 50 And they did not understand the words which He had spoken to them. 51 And He descended with them and went to Nazareth, and was keeping Himself subject to them. And His mother maintained all of these words in her heart. 52 And Yahshua advanced in wisdom and in stature and in favor before Yahweh and men.
III 1 Now in the fifteenth year of the emperorship of Tiberios Caesar, Pontios Pilatos being governor of Judaea, and Herodas being Tetrarch of Galilaia, and Philippos his brother being Tetrarch of Itouraia and the land of Trachonitis, and Lusanios being Tetrarch of Abilene, 2 in the high priesthood of Hannas and Ka?aphas, the Word of Yahweh had come upon Iohannes the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. 3 And he had gone into all the region of the Jordan proclaiming an immersion of repentance for a remission of errors, 4 as it is written in the book of the sayings of Isaiah the prophet: ?A voice crying in the wilderness: prepare the way of the Prince, make straight His paths! 5 Every ravine shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked paths shall be into straight ones, and the rough ways into smooth roads. 6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of Yahweh!?
7 Then he said to a crowd coming out to be immersed by him: ?Race of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 You should really make fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin by saying among yourselves ?We have Abraham for a father?. For I say to you that Yahweh is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones! 9 But already even the axe is laid to the root of the trees: surely any tree not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire!?
10 Then the crowd questioned him, saying ?So what should we do?? 11 And replying he said to them: ?He having two shirts must share with he who has not, and he having food must do likewise.? 12 Then also the tax-collectors came to be immersed, and they said to him ?Teacher, what should we do?? 13 And he said to them ?Do not exact any more than that which is appointed to you.? 14 So those who were soldiers also asked him, saying: ?And what should we do?? And he said to them: ?You should not cause any agitation, nor make false accusations, and be satisfied with your provisions?. 15 And with the people supposing, and all reasoning in their hearts concerning Iohannes, that perhaps he may be the Christ, 16 Iohannes replied saying to all: ?Indeed I immerse you in water, but He comes, who is more powerful than me, of whom I am not worthy to loosen the straps of His sandals. He shall immerse you in the Holy Spirit, and in fire! 17 Of whom the winnowing fan is in His hand, to purge His threshing-floor, and to gather together the wheat into His storehouse, but the chaff He shall burn with unquenchable fire.?
18 So then also many other things exhorting he had announced to the people. 19 But Herodas the Tetrarch, having been reproved by him concerning Herodia the wife of his brother, and concerning all of the evil things which Herodas had done, 20 added even this upon all: he had shut Iohannes up in prison.
21 Then it happened as all the people were being immersed, Yahshua also was being immersed and praying, the heaven opened 22 and he had seen the Holy Spirit descending bodily as a dove upon Him, and a voice coming from heaven: ?You are My beloved Son. In You I am satisfied.?
23 And this was Yahshua, beginning at about thirty years old, being a son, as was believed, of Ioseph, the son of Eli, 24 the son of Maththat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Iannai, the son of Ioseph, 25 the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahoum, the son of Hesli, the son of Naggai, 26 the son of Ma@th, the son of Mattathias, the son of SemeVn, the son of Iosach, the son of Ioda, 27 the son of Iohanan, the son of Resa, the son of Zorobabel, the son of Salathiel, the son of Neri, 28 the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Kosam, the son of Elmadam, the son of Er, 29 the son of Iasous, the son of Eliezer, the son of Iorim, the son of Maththat, the son of Levi, 30 the son of Sumeon, the son of Iouda, the son of Ioseph, the son of Ionam, the son of Eliakim, 31 the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Natham, the son of David, 32 the son of Iessai, the son of Iobel, the son of Boos, the son of Sala, the son of Nahasson, 33 the son of Adam, the son of Admin, the son of Arni, the son of Hesrom, the son of Phares, the son of Iouda, 34 the son of Jakob, the son of Isaak, the son of Abraham, the son of Thara, the son of Nachor, 35 the son of Serouch, the son of Ragau, the son of Phalek, the son of Eber, the son of Sala, 36 the son of Ka?nam, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Sem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, 37 the son of Mathousala, the son of Henoch, the son of Iaret, the son of Malele@l, the son of Ka?nam, 38 the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of Yahweh.
IV 1 And filled with the Holy Spirit, Yahshua returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 being tested for forty days by the False Accuser. And He did not eat anything in those days, and upon their completion He hungered. 3 So the False Accuser said to Him: ?If You are a son of Yahweh, speak to this stone that it would become bread.? 4 And Yahshua replied to him, ?It is written that ?not by bread alone shall man live?.? 5 And bringing Him up he showed Him all of the kingdoms of the inhabited earth in a moment of time, 6 then the False Accuser said to Him: ?I will give to You the authority over all this, and their honor, because to me it was delivered and to whomever I wish I could give it. 7 Therefore if You would worship before me, it shall all be Yours.? 8 And replying Yahshua said to him: ?It is written, ?Yahweh your God you shall worship, and you shall serve Him only?.? 9 Then he led Him to Jerusalem and stood Him upon the wing of the temple and said to Him: ?If You are a son of Yahweh, throw Yourself down from there, 10 for it is written that ?He commanded His messengers concerning You, to guard You closely?, 11 and that ?by their hands they shall bear You, lest at any time You may strike Your foot against a stone?.? 12 And replying Yahshua said to him: ?For that it says ?You shall not tempt Yahweh your God?.? 13 And ending the trial entirely, the False Accuser withdrew from Him until a convenient time.
14 Then Yahshua by the power of the Spirit returned into Galilaia, and a report went out throughout the whole surrounding region concerning Him. 15 And He taught in their assembly halls, being extolled by all.
16 Then he went into Nazara, where He was raised, and entered, according to custom with Him on the day of the Sabbaths, into the assembly hall and stood up to read. 17 And a scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed over to Him, and unrolling the scroll He found the place where it was written: 18 ?The Spirit of Yahweh is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and a restoration of sight to the blind. To send off the broken with release. 19 To proclaim a year acceptable by Yahweh!? 20 And rolling the scroll He returned it to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the assembly hall were gazing earnestly at Him. 21 Then He began to speak to them, that ?Today this writing is fulfilled in your ears!? 22 And all gave witness to Him and wondered at the words of favor which came forth from His mouth, and they said ?Is He not a son of Ioseph?? 23 And He said to them, ?Surely you shall speak to Me this parable: ?Physician, heal Yourself! Whatever we have heard happened in Kapharnaoum, do also here in Your fatherland!?? 24 Then He said ?Verily I say to you, that not one prophet is acceptable in his fatherland. 25 And in truth I say to you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven had been shut for three years and six months, as a great famine came upon all the land, 26 and to not one of them had Elijah been sent, except to Sarepta of Sidonia to a widow woman. 27 And there were many lepers in Israel with Elisaie the prophet, yet not one of them had been cleansed except Naiman the Syrian.? 28 And they in the assembly hall had all become filled with anger hearing these things. 29 And rising up, they cast Him out of the city and brought Him unto a brow of the mountain upon which their city was built so as to throw Him down, 30 then he departed passing through the midst of them.
31 Then He descended into Kapharnaoum a city of Galilaia, and was teaching them on the Sabbaths, 32 and they were astonished by His teaching, because His discourse was with authority.
33 And in the assembly hall was a man having a spirit of an unclean demon and he cried out in a great voice: 34 ?Hey! What is there with us and with You, Yahshua the Nazarene? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are, the Holy One of Yahweh!? 35 Then Yahshua chastised him, saying ?Be silent, and come out from him!? And the demon throwing him down between them came out from him, not hurting him any. 36 And there came amazement upon all, and they spoke together to one another, saying ?What an account this is! For that with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits and they depart!? 37 And a report went out concerning Him into every place in the surrounding area.
38 Then rising up from the assembly hall He entered into the house of Simon. And the mother-in-law of Simon was stricken with a terrible fever and they enquired of Him concerning her. 39 And standing over her He censured the fever and it left her, then immediately having risen she served them.
40 Then the sun setting, all as many as they had who were sick with various diseases they brought to Him, and He healed each one of them laying the hands upon them. 41 And there also came out demons from many, crying aloud and saying that ?You are the Son of Yahweh!? And censuring them He did not permit them to speak, because they knew Him to be the Christ.
42 Then day coming, departing He went to a desert place, and the crowd sought Him and having come unto Him then they detained Him, for which not to go away from them. 43 But He said to them that ?It is necessary for Me to deliver the good message of the Kingdom of Yahweh in other cities also, because for this I have been sent.? 44 And He was proclaiming in the assembly halls of Judaea.
V 1 And it came to pass with the crowd pressing upon Him then to hear the Word of Yahweh, that He was standing by the lake Gennesaret, 2 and He saw two vessels stationed by the lake, and the fishermen disembarked from them washing the nets. 3 And boarding one of the vessels, which was Simon?s, He asked him to set out a little from the land, and sitting He taught the crowds from the vessel. 4 Then when He had stopped speaking He said to Simon: ?Set out into the deep and lower your nets for a catch.? 5 And replying Simon said ?Master, through the whole night laboring we have taken nothing, but upon Your word I shall lower the nets.? 6 And doing this they enclosed a great multitude of fish, even bursting through their nets. 7 Then they signaled to the partners in the other vessel that they come to assist them, and coming then they filled both the vessels so as to sink them. 8 And seeing it, Simon Petros fell to the knees of Yahshua saying ?Depart from me, because I am sinful man, O Prince!? 9 For amazement embraced him and all those with him, upon the catch of the fish which they had gathered. 10 And likewise also Iakobos and Iohannes, sons of Zebedaios, who were companions with Simon. And Yahshua said to Simon, ?Do not fear, from now on you shall be catching men.? 11 And bringing back the vessels to land, leaving everything they followed Him.
12 Then it came to pass while He was in one of the cities, and behold, a man full of leprosy, and seeing Yahshua, falling upon his face he begged Him saying ?Prince, if You wish, You are able to cleanse me.? 13 And extending the hand, He touched him, saying ?I wish: you be cleansed!? And immediately the leprosy departed from him. 14 And He instructed him not to say anything, ?but departing, show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing just as Moses had prescribed, for a testimony to them.? 15 And still more there spread around the report concerning Him, and many crowds gathered to Him to listen and to be cured from their illnesses. 16 And He was retiring into the deserts and praying.
17 And it happened in one of those days that He was teaching, and the Pharisees and teachers of the law were being seated, those who were come from every town of Galilaia and Judaea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Prince was in Him to heal. 18 And behold, men carrying upon a cot a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and to set him before Him. 19 And not finding how they could bring him in because of the crowd, going up upon the roof through the ceramic tiles they lowered him with the cot into the midst before Yahshua. 20 And seeing their faith He said ?Man, your errors are forgiven you!? 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to debate, saying ?Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who is able to forgive errors if not Yahweh alone?? 22 But Yahshua, knowing their reasonings, replying said to them ?Why do you dispute in your hearts? 23 What is easier, to say ?Your errors are forgiven you? or to say ?Arise and walk?? 24 Now in order that you would see that the Son of Man has authority upon the earth to forgive wrongdoing...? He said to the paralytic ?...I say to you, arise, and taking up your cot go to your house!? 25 And immediately rising before them, taking up that which he laid upon, he departed for his house extolling Yahweh. 26 And astonishment seized all, and they extolled Yahweh. And they were filled with fear, saying that ?We have seen marvels this day!?
27 And after these things He departed, and having seen a tax-collector by the name Levi sitting by the tax office, then He said to him: ?Follow Me.? 28 And abandoning everything rising up he followed Him. 29 And Levi made a great reception for Him at his house, and there was a great crowd of tax-collectors and others who were reclining at dinner with Him. 30 And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured of them to His students, saying ?For what reason do you eat and drink with tax-collectors and wrongdoers?? 31 And replying Yahshua said to them: ?The healthy have no need of a physician, but those having maladies. 32 I have not come to call the just, but wrongdoers to repentance.?
33 Then they said to Him: ?The students of Iohannes fast frequently and make supplications, and in like manner those of the Pharisees. But they eat and drink with You.? 34 So Yahshua said to them: ?The sons of the bridegroom are not able to make fasts while the bridegroom is with them. 35 But the days shall come, and when the bridegroom is taken from them, then they shall fast in those days.?
36 Then He also spoke a parable to them, that ?No one tearing a patch from a new cloth puts it on an old garment, but if it is, then the new will tear and the old will not agree with the patch from the new. 37 And no one puts new wine into old skins, but if it is, the new wine will break the skins and it will pour out and the skins will be destroyed. 38 Rather one must put new wine into new skins. 39 And no one drinking the old desires the new, for ?the old?, one says, ?is good?.?
VI 1 And it came to pass on a Sabbath that He was passing through a planted field, and His students had been plucking and eating the grain, rubbing off the husks with their hand. 2 Then some of the Pharisees said ?Why do You do that which is not lawful on the Sabbaths?? 3 And replying Yahshua said to them ?Neither have you read that which David did when he and those who were with him had hungered. 4 As he entered into the House of Yahweh, and taking the bread of the presentation he had eaten and had given to those with him, which is not lawful to eat except only for the priests.? 5 Then He said to them: ?The Son of Man is Prince of the Sabbath.?
6 Then it happened on another Sabbath that He entered into the assembly hall to teach, and there was a man there and his right hand was withered. 7 But the scribes and the Pharisees were closely observing Him, if He would heal on the Sabbath, in order that they would find to bring an accusation against Him. 8 But He knew their reasonings, and said to the man having the withered hand: ?Arise, and stand in the middle.? And rising up he stood. 9 Then Yahshua said to them: ?I inquire of you, whether it is lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do bad, to save or to lose a life?? 10 Then looking around at them all, He said to him: ?Extend your hand.? And he did so, and his hand was restored. 11 And they were filled with a want of understanding, and discussed with one another what they could do to Yahshua.
12 And it came to pass in those days that He departed for a mountain to pray, and was passing the night in the prayer of Yahweh. 13 And when day came He called to His students, and chose out twelve from among them whom He then named ?ambassadors?: 14 Simon whom He also named Petros and Andreas his brother, and Iakobos, and Iohannes, and Philippos, and Bartholomaios, 15 and Maththaios, and Thomas, and Iakobos son of Alphaios, and Simon who is called the ?zealot?, 16 and Iouda the brother of Iakobos, and Ioudas Iskarioth who had become a traitor. 17 And descending with them He stood upon a level place, and a great crowd of His students, and a great multitude of people from all of Judaea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Turos and Sidon, 18 who had come to hear Him and to be healed from their diseases. And those being disturbed by unclean spirits had been cured. 19 And all the crowd sought to touch Him, because power comes out from Him and heals all.
20 Then He, raising His eyes to His students, said ?Blessed are the poor, because yours is the Kingdom of Yahweh. 21 Blessed are those hungering now, because you shall be filled! Blessed are those weeping now, because you shall laugh! 22 Blessed are you when men hate you and when they separate from you and they reproach and they cast out your name as evil because of the Son of Man: 23 Rejoice in that day and leap, for behold, your reward is great in heaven! For in accordance with these same things did their fathers do to the prophets.
24 ?But woe to you who are wealthy, because you hold your consolation! 25 Woe to you who are full now, because you shall hunger! Woe to those laughing now, because you shall mourn and you shall weep! 26 Woe when all men speak well to you, for in accordance with these same things did their fathers do to the false prophets!
27 ?But I say to you, to those listening, love your enemies. Do well to those hating you. 28 Speak well to those cursing you. Offer prayers for those abusing you. 29 To him striking you upon the cheek, you offer also the other. And from him taking your cloak, do not also forbid your shirt. 30 You must give to each who is asking, and from him taking your belongings do not demand back.
31 ?And just as you wish that men would do to you, you likewise do to them. 32 And if you should love those loving you, what benefit is it to you? For even the wrongdoers love those loving them. 33 And indeed if you should do good to those doing you good, what benefit is it to you? Even the wrongdoers do this. 34 And if you should loan to from whom you hope to receive, what benefit is it to you? Even the wrongdoers loan to wrongdoers that they would receive back their belongings. 35 But you should love your enemy and do good and loan nothing hoping return and your reward will be great, and you shall be sons of the Highest, because He is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.
36 ?You must be compassionate just as your Father is compassionate. 37 And you must not judge, that you would not be judged. And you must not condemn, that you would not be condemned. Acquit, and you shall be acquitted. 38 Give, and it shall be given to you. A good measure pressed, shaken, overflowing shall they put into your bosom. For in the measure which you measure shall it be measured in return to you.?
39 Then He spoke to them a parable: ?Is any one blind able to guide the blind? Would they not both fall into a ditch? 40 There is no student above the teacher, but all having been restored he shall be as his teacher. 41 Now why do you see the stick in the eye of your brother, but the beam in your own eye you do not perceive? 42 How are you able to say to your brother, ?Brother, let me extract the stick which is in your eye?, yourself not seeing the beam which is in your eye? Hypocrite! Extract first the beam from your eye, and then you will see clearly to extract the stick which is in the eye of your brother.
43 ?For there is not a good tree making rotten fruit. Contrarily, neither is there a rotten tree making good fruit. 44 For each tree is known by its own fruit. Indeed they do not gather figs from thorns. Nor could they harvest grapes from bramble-bush. 45 The good man brings forth good from the good treasure of the heart, and the wicked brings forth evil from the wicked. From the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
46 ?Now why do you call Me ?Prince, Prince? yet do not do the things which I say? 47 Every one who coming to Me and hearing My words and doing them, I will show to you what he is like. 48 He is like a man building a house who dug up and deepened and placed a foundation upon the bedrock. And a flood coming, the river burst forth against that house, yet was not able to shake it because it was well built. 49 But he who hears and does not is like a man building a house upon the earth without a foundation, which the river bursts forth against, and immediately it collapses, and great comes the breaking of that house!?
VII 1 When He had completed all of His sayings for the ears of the people, He went into Kapharnaoum. 2 And upon a certain centurion?s having a sickly servant who was about to die, who was dear to him, 3 and having heard about Yahshua, he sent to Him elders of the Judaeans, asking Him that coming He may preserve his servant. 4 And they coming near to Yahshua exhorted Him earnestly, saying that ?Worthy is he for whom You may grant this. 5 For he loves our nation and he has built the assembly hall for us.? 6 So Yahshua went with them. And already He being not far from the house, the centurion sent friends saying to Him ?Prince, You must not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should come under my roof! 7 Wherefore neither am I myself worthy to come to You, but speak in a word, and let my servant be healed. 8 For I also am a man appointed by authority, having under myself soldiers, and I say to this one ?go?, and he goes, and to another ?come?, and he comes, and to my servant ?do this?, and he does it.? 9 And hearing these things, Yahshua admiring him and turning to the crowd following Him said: ?I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith!? 10 And those who were sent, returning to the house found the servant healthy.
11 And it came to pass thereafter that He went to a city called NaVn, and His students and a great crowd went with Him. 12 And as He neared the gate of the city, then behold: a dead man being carried out, the best beloved son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a considerable crowd from the city was with her. 13 And seeing her the Prince was deeply moved by her and said to her: ?Do not weep!? 14 And going forth He grasped the coffin, and those bearing it stopped, and He said ?Young man, I say to you, arise!? 15 Then the corpse sat up and began to speak, and He gave him to his mother. 16 And fear seized all and they honored Yahweh saying that ?a great prophet has arisen among us? and that ?Yahweh has visited His people.? 17 And this account went out in the whole of Judaea and all the surrounding area concerning Him.
18 And his students reported to Iohannes concerning all of these things, and summoning a certain two of his students Iohannes 19 sent to the Prince, saying ?Are You He who is coming, or do we expect another?? 20 Then coming to Him the men said: ?Iohannes the Baptist sent us to You, saying: ?Are you He who is coming, or do we expect another??? 21 And at that hour He had healed many from diseases and plagues and wicked spirits and many blind were granted to see. 22 And replying He said to them: ?Going, report to Iohannes the things which you have seen and you have heard: The blind have their sight restored and the lame walk about, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor are brought good news, 23 and blessed is he who is not offended by Me!?
24 And the messengers of Iohannes departing, He began to speak to the crowd concerning Iohannes: ?Why do you go out into the desert? To behold a reed being shaken by the wind? 25 Rather why do you go out? To see a man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who are in splendid and luxurious garments are in the palaces! 26 But why do you go out? To see a prophet? Yea, I say to you, and greater than a prophet! 27 This is concerning whom it was written: ?Behold, I shall send My messenger before Your face, who shall prepare Your way before You.? 28 I say to you, no one born of women is greater than Iohannes, but he who is least in the Kingdom of Yahweh is greater than he!? 29 And all the people heard, and the tax-collectors deemed Yahweh just, being immersed in the immersion of Iohannes. 30 But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of Yahweh in regard to themselves, not being immersed by him.
31 ?So to what do I compare the men of this race? And what are they like? 32 They are like boys sitting in the market place and calling to one another things which say ?We piped for you and you did not dance. We sang dirges and you did not weep.? 33 For Iohannes the Baptist came not eating wheat-bread nor drinking wine and you say ?He has a demon.? 34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say ?Behold the man is a glutton and a wine-drinker, a friend of tax-collectors and wrongdoers!? 35 And Wisdom is justified by all of her children. ?
36 Then one of the Pharisees had asked Him that He would eat with him. And entering into the house of the Pharisee He reclined. 37 And behold, there was a woman who was in the city, a wrongdoer, and finding out that He reclined in the house of the Pharisee, she acquired a box of ointment, 38 and standing behind by His feet weeping, with tears she began to wet His feet and wiped them off with the hair of her head, and she kissed and anointed His feet with ointment. 39 And seeing, the Pharisee who invited Him spoke to himself saying ?If He were a prophet, He would know who and of what sort is the woman who touches Him, that she is a wrongdoer.? 40 And replying Yahshua said to him ?Simon, I have something to say to you.? ?Then teacher,? he said, ?speak!? 41 ?Two men were indebted to a certain moneylender. The one owed five hundred denarii, the other fifty. 42 Upon their having nothing to repay, he forgave both. Now which of them should love him more?? 43 Answering Simon said ?I suspect that to whom he forgave more.? And He said to him ?You have decided correctly.? 44 Then turning to the woman with Simon He said ?Look at this woman. I have come into your house. You did not offer water for My feet. But she with tears wet My feet and wiped them off with her hair. 45 You did not offer Me a kiss. But she from her coming in has not ceased kissing My feet. 46 You did not anoint My head with olive oil. But she with ointment has anointed My feet. 47 For that favor, I say to you, her many errors are forgiven, because she has loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, loves little.? 48 Then He said to her: ?Your errors are forgiven.? 49 And those dining together began to speak among themselves, ?Who is this who even forgives wrongdoing?? 50 Then He said to the woman: ?Your faith has preserved you: go in peace.?
VIII 1 And it came to pass thereafter, that He was passing through each city and town proclaiming and announcing the good message of the Kingdom of Yahweh, and the twelve were with Him, 2 and there were certain women, who were healed from evil spirits and illnesses: Maria who is called Magdalane from whom seven demons were expelled, 3 and Iohanna wife of Chouza a trustee of Herodas, and Sousanna and many others, who had been ministering to them from their belongings.
4 And a great crowd coming together and upon their traveling to each city with Him, He spoke in a parable: 5 ?The sower has come out to sow his seed: and in his sowing, while that which fell by the road was then trampled and the birds of heaven devoured it, 6 then others had fallen upon the bedrock, and sprouting it withered because it did not have moisture. 7 And others had fallen in among the thorns, and growing together the thorns strangled them. 8 Yet others had fallen onto the good earth and sprouting produced fruit a hundredfold.? Saying these things He cried out ?He having an ear to hear must hear!?
9 Then His students enquired of Him: ?What could this parable be?? 10 And He said ?To you it is given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Yahweh, but to the rest in parables, that seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not understand.
11 ?This is the parable: The seed is the Word of Yahweh, 12 and they by the road are those hearing, then comes the False Accuser and he takes the Word from their hearts, lest believing they would be preserved. 13 And those upon the bedrock, when they heard they received the Word with joy, but these do not have roots, who for a time believe and in time of trial they withdraw. 14 And those having fallen into the thorns, they are those hearing and going off are strangled by the cares and riches and pleasures of life and are not brought to perfection. 15 But that which is in the fair earth, they are those who are fair and good in heart, hearing the Word, continuing they then bear fruit in patient endurance.
16 ?Now no one lighting a lamp conceals it in a vessel or sets it under a couch, but sets it upon a lampstand, that those entering in would see the light. 17 For there is nothing secret which shall not become evident, nor hidden which shall not be known and brought to light.
18 ?Therefore you watch how you hear. Indeed whoever has, it shall be given to him, and whoever has not even that which he supposes to have shall be taken from him.?
19 Then His mother and brethren came near to Him, yet were not able to meet with Him because of the crowd. 20 So it was announced to Him: ?Your mother and brethren stand outside wishing to see You!? 21 And replying He said to them ?My mother and My brethren are those hearing and doing the Word of Yahweh!?
22 And it happened in one of those days that He and His students boarded into a vessel, and He said to them: ?We should pass through to the other side of the lake?, and they set out. 23 Then most of them had fallen asleep, and a furious storm of wind descended upon the lake, and being filled with water then they were endangered. 24 So drawing near they aroused Him saying ?Master, Master, we are being destroyed!? And awakening He censured the wind and the waves of water, and they stopped, and it became calm. 25 Then He said to them ?Where is your faith?? But being fearful they wondered saying to each other ?So who is this that He even commands the winds and the water, and they obey Him??
26 Then they came ashore in the region of the Gadarenes which is opposite the coast of Galilaia. 27 And with His coming out upon the land He met a certain man from the city having demons, and for considerable time who had not worn a garment, and has abode not in a house but among the tombs. 28 And seeing Yahshua, crying out he fell down before Him and in a loud voice he said ?What is there with me and with You, Yahshua Son of Yahweh the Highest? I beg You, do not torment me!? 29 Therefore He commanded the unclean spirit to come out from the man. For many times he had seized him, and being guarded he was bound in chains and shackles, yet breaking through the bonds he had been driven by the demon into the wilderness. 30 Then Yahshua questioned him, ?What is your name?? And he said ?Legion?, because many demons had entered into him. 31 And they exhorted Him that He would not command them to depart into the abyss. 32 And there was a considerable herd of swine there feeding on the mountain, and they exhorted Him that He would allow them to enter into them, and He allowed them. 33 Then the demons departing from the man entered into the swine, and the herd rushed headlong down the bank into the lake and drowned.
34 And seeing what happened, the swineherds fled and announced it in the city and in the fields. 35 Then they came out to see what happened and they came to Yahshua and found the man from whom He had expelled the demons sitting at the feet of Yahshua dressed and of sound mind, and they feared. 36 And those seeing it reported to them how He had saved him being possessed by demons. 37 And the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes asked Him to depart from them, because they were stricken with great fear. Then He, boarding into a vessel, returned. 38 But the man from whom the demons were expelled had begged Him to be with Him. But He dismissed him, saying: 39 ?Return to your house and describe what things Yahweh has done for you.? And he went out through the whole city proclaiming what things Yahshua had done for him.
40 And upon the returning of Yahshua the crowd received Him, for they were all expecting Him. 41 And behold, there came a man with the name Iahiros, and he was a leader of the assembly hall, and falling by the feet of Yahshua he invited Him to come into his house, 42 because his best-loved daughter, about twelve years old, was in it and she was about to die. And upon bringing Him the crowd constrained Him. 43 And there was a woman with a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent her entire livelihood with physicians, who was not able to be healed by anyone, 44 who approaching behind Him grabbed the hem of His garment and immediately the flow of her blood had stopped. 45 And Yahshua said ?Who has grabbed Me?? Then all denying, Petros said ?Master, the crowd constrains and presses upon You!? 46 Then Yahshua said ?Someone has grabbed Me, for I know that power has gone out from Me.? 47 And the woman, seeing that she had not gone unnoticed, came trembling and falling before Him because of the charge that she had grabbed Him, announced before all of the people even how she was immediately healed. 48 And He said to her ?Daughter, your faith has preserved you, go in peace.? 49 While He was speaking someone comes by the assembly hall leader saying that ?Your daughter has died. Trouble the Teacher no longer.? 50 But hearing it Yahshua replied to him ?Fear not, only have faith, and she shall be preserved.? 51 And coming into the house He did not allow anyone to enter with Him except Petros and Iohannes and Iakobos, and the father and the mother of the child. 52 And all were weeping and mourning her, and He said: ?Do not weep. For she has not died, but is sleeping.? 53 And they were deriding Him, knowing that she had died. 54 Then grasping her hand He cried aloud, saying ?Child, arise!? 55 And her spirit returned and immediately she stood up, and He commanded to give for her to eat. 56 And her parents were astonished, and He instructed them to say nothing of what happened.

I1 Seeing that many have taken in hand to arrange a report concerning those matters fully ascertained among us, 2 just as they who from the beginning having been eyewitnesses and attendants of the Word transmitted them to us, 3 it seemed good also to me, having closely followed from the first in all things accurately, to write to you methodically, most excellent lover of Yahweh, 4 that you may decide concerning the certainty of the accounts which you were taught.
5 There was in the days of Herodas, King of the Judaeans, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abia, and with him a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabet. 6 And they were both righteous before Yahweh, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of Yahweh blamelessly. 7 Yet there was no child for them, because Elisabet was sterile, and they were both advanced in their days.
8 And it came to pass upon his serving in the duty of his division before Yahweh, 9 according to the custom of the priesthood he was assigned the entering into the temple of Yahweh to burn incense. 10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the time of the incense. 11 And there appeared to him a messenger of Yahweh standing at the right side of the altar of the incense. 12 And Zacharias seeing it was troubled and fear fell upon him. 13 And the messenger spoke to him: ?Fear not, Zacharias, since your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elisabet shall produce a son for you and you shall call his name Iohannes. 14 And he will be a joy to you and an exultation. And many shall rejoice upon his birth. 15 For he shall be great before Yahweh, and wine and beer he shall not drink, and he shall be filled of the Holy Spirit yet in the womb of his mother. 16 And many of the sons of Israel shall he turn to Yahweh their God. 17 And he will go on before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the purpose of the just, to make ready a people prepared for Yahweh.? 18 And Zacharias said to the messenger: ?By what shall I know this? For I am an old man and my wife is advanced in her days!? 19 And replying the messenger said to him ?I am Gabriel who stands before Yahweh and have been sent to speak to you and to bring good news of these things to you, 20 and behold! You shall be silent and not able to speak until the day these things happen, because you did not believe my words, which shall be fulfilled in their time.?
21 And the people were expecting Zacharias and wondered at his being delayed in the temple. 22 Then coming out he was not able to speak to them, and they decided that he had seen a vision in the temple, and he was making signs to them, and remained mute. 23 And it happened as the days of his service were fulfilled, he departed for his house. 24 And after those days Elisabet his wife conceived, and concealed herself five months, saying 25 that ?Thusly has Yahweh done to me in the days which He looked to remove my reproach among men.?
26 Then in the sixth month the messenger Gabriel was sent by Yahweh to a city of Galilaia named Nazareth 27 to a virgin promised in marriage to a man whose name was Ioseph, from of the house of David, and the name of the virgin was Mariam. 28 And going in before her the messenger said ?Greetings, favored one, Yahweh is with you!? 29 But upon this saying she was confused and pondered what sort of greeting it could be. 30 And the messenger said to her ?Do not fear, Mariam! For you have found favor before Yahweh. 31 Now behold, you shall conceive in the womb and you shall beget a Son, and you shall call His name Yahshua. 32 He shall be great and He shall be called ?Son of the Highest? and Yahweh God shall give to Him the throne of David His father, 33 and He shall rule over the house of Jakob for the ages, and of His Kingdom there shall be no end!? 34 But Mariam said to the messenger, ?How shall this be, since I have not known a man?? 35 And replying the messenger said to her ?The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you, for which also the Holy One being born shall be called ?Son of Yahweh?. 36 And behold! Elisabet your kinswoman, she also has conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who is called sterile; 37 because not any word is impossible with Yahweh.? 38 And Mariam said: ?Behold the maidservant of Yahweh! May it be with me according to your word!? And the messenger departed from her.
39 And Mariam rose up in those days and went with eagerness to the hill country to a city of Judah, 40 and entered into the house of Zacharias and greeted Elisabet. 41 And it happened as Elisabet heard the greeting of Mariam, the infant in her womb jumped, and Elisabet was filled of the Holy Spirit, 42 and proclaimed with a great cry and said ?Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 And how can this be with me, that the mother of my Prince should come to me? 44 For behold, as the sound of your greeting came into my ears, the infant in my womb jumped in exaltation. 45 And happy is she who believes that there will be a fulfillment of the things spoken to her from Yahweh!?
46 And Mariam said ?Yahweh has magnified my life, 47 and my spirit rejoices in Yahweh my Savior, 48 because He has looked upon the low estate of His servant. For behold, from this time all the generations shall pronounce me happy, 49 because the Powerful One has done greatly by me, and holy is His Name, 50 and His mercy is for generations and generations for those who fear Him. 51 For He has made victory by His arm! He has scattered those who are proud in the thoughts of their hearts! 52 He has deposed potentates from thrones and He has elevated the lowly! 53 Those who hunger He has filled with good things, and those who are rich He has sent away empty. 54 He has come to the aid of His servant Israel, to call mercy into remembrance, 55 just as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring for the age.? 56 So Mariam remained with her for about three months, and returned to her house.
57 Then Elisabet fulfilled the time of her bearing, and gave birth to a son. 58 And her neighbors and kinsmen heard that Yahweh had magnified His mercy with her and they rejoiced with her. 59 And it happened upon the eighth day that they came to circumcise the child and they called him by the name of his father, Zacharias. 60 And replying his mother said ?No, rather he shall be called Iohannes!? 61 Then they said to her that ?There is no one from among your kinsmen who is called by this name.? 62 So they motioned to his father for that which he wished to call him. 63 And requesting a tablet he wrote, saying: ?Iohannes is his name?, and they all wondered. 64 Then his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue, and he spoke praising Yahweh. 65 And fear came upon all those dwelling around them, and the whole account was spoken throughout all the hill country of Judaea. 66 And it was put into the hearts of all of them who heard, saying ?Who then is this child?? And indeed the hand of Yahweh was with him.
67 Then Zacharias his father was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying: 68 ?Blessed is Yahweh the God of Israel, that He has visited and brought about redemption for His people, 69 and has raised a horn of salvation for us in the house of David His servant, 70 just as He spoke through the mouths of His holy prophets from of old: 71 preservation from our enemies and from the hand of all those who hate us! 72 To bring about mercy with our fathers and to call into remembrance His holy covenant, 73 the oath which He swore to Abraham our father, which is given to us: 74 being delivered fearlessly from the hands of our enemies to serve Him 75 in piety and in righteousness before Him for all of our days. 76 And now you, child, shall be called a prophet of the Highest: for you shall go on before the face of Yahweh to prepare His path. 77 For which to give knowledge of salvation to His people by the dismissal of their errors, 78 through the affectionate mercies of our God, by whom dawn visits us from the heights 79 to shine upon those sitting in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet in the way of peace.? 80 And the child grew and was strengthened in spirit, and was in the wilderness until the day of his manifestation to Israel.
II 1 And it happened in those days that there came out a decree from Caesar Augustus to register the whole inhabited world. 2 This first registration happened while Kurenios was governor of Syria. 3 And all had gone to be registered, each to his city. 4 So then Ioseph went up from Galilaia, from the city Nazareth, into Judaea to a city of David which is called Bethlehem, because of his being of the house and family of David, 5 to be registered with Mariam, whom was promised in marriage to him, she being pregnant. 6 And it happened to them while being there that the days of which she was to bear had been fulfilled. 7 And she gave birth to her first-born Son, and swathed Him and laid Him in a feeding-trough, since there was not a place for them at the inn.
8 And there were shepherds in that area, dwelling in the field and keeping a watch by night over their sheep. 9 And a messenger of Yahweh stood over them, and the effulgence of Yahweh shone about them, and they feared a great fear. 10 Then the messenger said to them: ?Do not fear, for behold! I bring to you a message of great joy which is for all the people: 11 That today there has been born to you a Savior, who is the Anointed Prince, in the city of David. 12 And this is a sign for you, you shall find an infant swathed and lying in a feeding-trough.? 13 And suddenly there were with the messenger a multitude of the heavenly army praising Yahweh and saying: 14 ?Honor to Yahweh in the heights, and peace upon the earth among approved men.?
15 And it happened, as the messengers departed from them into the heaven, the shepherds had said to each other ?Indeed we should pass through unto Bethlehem and see this account which happened which Yahweh has made known to us.? 16 And being eager they went, and discovered both Mariam and Ioseph, and the infant lying in the feeding-trough. 17 And seeing it they made known concerning the account which had been spoken to them about this child. 18 And all of those hearing wondered concerning the things being spoken to them by the shepherds. 19 And Mariam kept together all of these words, collecting them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, honoring and praising Yahweh for all which they heard and saw, just as it had been spoken to them.
21 And when eight days were fulfilled for which to circumcise Him then His name was called Yahshua, which He had been called by the messenger before His conception in the womb. 22 And when the days of their purification were fulfilled, according to the law of Moses, they brought Him into Jerusalem to stand before Yahweh, 23 just as it is written in the law of Yahweh that ?every male opening the womb shall be called holy to Yahweh,? 24 and to give an offering according to that spoken in the law of Yahweh, ?a pair of turtle-doves or two young pigeons.?
25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Sumeon and this man was righteous and devout, expecting the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it was forewarned to him by the Holy Spirit, not to see death before he should see the Anointed Prince. 27 And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and in there being introduced to the parents of the child Yahshua, upon their doing that which is according to the custom of the law concerning Him, 28 then he took Him into his arms and praised Yahweh, and said: 29 ?Now release Your servant, Master, in peace according to Your word: 30 Because my eyes have seen Your Salvation, 31 which You have prepared in front of all the people: 32 a light for the revelation of the Nations and honor of Your people Israel!? 33 And His father and mother were wondering at the things being spoken concerning Him. 34 Then Sumeon blessed them and said to Mariam His mother: ?Behold, He is set for a fall and a restoration of many in Israel, and for a sign speaking in opposition. 35 But a sword shall pass through your own soul also, that the reasonings of the hearts of many should be revealed.?
36 Then there was Anna a prophetess, a daughter of Phanouel, from the tribe of Asher. She was advanced greatly in age, living with a husband for seven years from her maidenhood, 37 and she is a widow for as long as eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, serving with fasting and in supplication night and day. 38 And at that hour standing nearby she confessed to Yahweh and spoke concerning Him to all those awaiting redemption in Jerusalem.
39 And as they completed all the things according to the law of Yahweh, they returned into Galilaia to their city Nazareth. 40 And the child grew and was strengthened, being filled with wisdom, and the favor of Yahweh was with Him.
41 And His parents had gone each year into Jerusalem for the feast of Passover. 42 And when He attained twelve years, upon their going up according to the custom of the feast, 43 and having fulfilled the days, upon their returning the child Yahshua had stayed behind in Jerusalem, and His parents knew it not, 44 but they believed Him to be among the travelers. Having gone a day?s journey then they sought Him among the kinsmen and acquaintances. 45 And not finding Him they returned to Jerusalem seeking Him. 46 And after three days passed, they found Him in the temple sitting in the midst of the teachers and listening to them and questioning them. 47 And all those hearing Him were amazed by His intelligence and replies. 48 And seeing Him they were astonished, and His mother said to Him ?Child, why have You done thusly to us? Behold, Your father and I travailing have sought You!? 49 And He said to them: ?Why have you sought Me? Do you not know that it is necessary for Me to be engaged in the matters of My Father?? 50 And they did not understand the words which He had spoken to them. 51 And He descended with them and went to Nazareth, and was keeping Himself subject to them. And His mother maintained all of these words in her heart. 52 And Yahshua advanced in wisdom and in stature and in favor before Yahweh and men.
III 1 Now in the fifteenth year of the emperorship of Tiberios Caesar, Pontios Pilatos being governor of Judaea, and Herodas being Tetrarch of Galilaia, and Philippos his brother being Tetrarch of Itouraia and the land of Trachonitis, and Lusanios being Tetrarch of Abilene, 2 in the high priesthood of Hannas and Ka?aphas, the Word of Yahweh had come upon Iohannes the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. 3 And he had gone into all the region of the Jordan proclaiming an immersion of repentance for a remission of errors, 4 as it is written in the book of the sayings of Isaiah the prophet: ?A voice crying in the wilderness: prepare the way of the Prince, make straight His paths! 5 Every ravine shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked paths shall be into straight ones, and the rough ways into smooth roads. 6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of Yahweh!?
7 Then he said to a crowd coming out to be immersed by him: ?Race of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 You should really make fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin by saying among yourselves ?We have Abraham for a father?. For I say to you that Yahweh is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones! 9 But already even the axe is laid to the root of the trees: surely any tree not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire!?
10 Then the crowd questioned him, saying ?So what should we do?? 11 And replying he said to them: ?He having two shirts must share with he who has not, and he having food must do likewise.? 12 Then also the tax-collectors came to be immersed, and they said to him ?Teacher, what should we do?? 13 And he said to them ?Do not exact any more than that which is appointed to you.? 14 So those who were soldiers also asked him, saying: ?And what should we do?? And he said to them: ?You should not cause any agitation, nor make false accusations, and be satisfied with your provisions?. 15 And with the people supposing, and all reasoning in their hearts concerning Iohannes, that perhaps he may be the Christ, 16 Iohannes replied saying to all: ?Indeed I immerse you in water, but He comes, who is more powerful than me, of whom I am not worthy to loosen the straps of His sandals. He shall immerse you in the Holy Spirit, and in fire! 17 Of whom the winnowing fan is in His hand, to purge His threshing-floor, and to gather together the wheat into His storehouse, but the chaff He shall burn with unquenchable fire.?
18 So then also many other things exhorting he had announced to the people. 19 But Herodas the Tetrarch, having been reproved by him concerning Herodia the wife of his brother, and concerning all of the evil things which Herodas had done, 20 added even this upon all: he had shut Iohannes up in prison.
21 Then it happened as all the people were being immersed, Yahshua also was being immersed and praying, the heaven opened 22 and he had seen the Holy Spirit descending bodily as a dove upon Him, and a voice coming from heaven: ?You are My beloved Son. In You I am satisfied.?
23 And this was Yahshua, beginning at about thirty years old, being a son, as was believed, of Ioseph, the son of Eli, 24 the son of Maththat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Iannai, the son of Ioseph, 25 the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahoum, the son of Hesli, the son of Naggai, 26 the son of Ma@th, the son of Mattathias, the son of SemeVn, the son of Iosach, the son of Ioda, 27 the son of Iohanan, the son of Resa, the son of Zorobabel, the son of Salathiel, the son of Neri, 28 the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Kosam, the son of Elmadam, the son of Er, 29 the son of Iasous, the son of Eliezer, the son of Iorim, the son of Maththat, the son of Levi, 30 the son of Sumeon, the son of Iouda, the son of Ioseph, the son of Ionam, the son of Eliakim, 31 the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Natham, the son of David, 32 the son of Iessai, the son of Iobel, the son of Boos, the son of Sala, the son of Nahasson, 33 the son of Adam, the son of Admin, the son of Arni, the son of Hesrom, the son of Phares, the son of Iouda, 34 the son of Jakob, the son of Isaak, the son of Abraham, the son of Thara, the son of Nachor, 35 the son of Serouch, the son of Ragau, the son of Phalek, the son of Eber, the son of Sala, 36 the son of Ka?nam, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Sem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, 37 the son of Mathousala, the son of Henoch, the son of Iaret, the son of Malele@l, the son of Ka?nam, 38 the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of Yahweh.
IV 1 And filled with the Holy Spirit, Yahshua returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 being tested for forty days by the False Accuser. And He did not eat anything in those days, and upon their completion He hungered. 3 So the False Accuser said to Him: ?If You are a son of Yahweh, speak to this stone that it would become bread.? 4 And Yahshua replied to him, ?It is written that ?not by bread alone shall man live?.? 5 And bringing Him up he showed Him all of the kingdoms of the inhabited earth in a moment of time, 6 then the False Accuser said to Him: ?I will give to You the authority over all this, and their honor, because to me it was delivered and to whomever I wish I could give it. 7 Therefore if You would worship before me, it shall all be Yours.? 8 And replying Yahshua said to him: ?It is written, ?Yahweh your God you shall worship, and you shall serve Him only?.? 9 Then he led Him to Jerusalem and stood Him upon the wing of the temple and said to Him: ?If You are a son of Yahweh, throw Yourself down from there, 10 for it is written that ?He commanded His messengers concerning You, to guard You closely?, 11 and that ?by their hands they shall bear You, lest at any time You may strike Your foot against a stone?.? 12 And replying Yahshua said to him: ?For that it says ?You shall not tempt Yahweh your God?.? 13 And ending the trial entirely, the False Accuser withdrew from Him until a convenient time.
14 Then Yahshua by the power of the Spirit returned into Galilaia, and a report went out throughout the whole surrounding region concerning Him. 15 And He taught in their assembly halls, being extolled by all.
16 Then he went into Nazara, where He was raised, and entered, according to custom with Him on the day of the Sabbaths, into the assembly hall and stood up to read. 17 And a scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed over to Him, and unrolling the scroll He found the place where it was written: 18 ?The Spirit of Yahweh is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and a restoration of sight to the blind. To send off the broken with release. 19 To proclaim a year acceptable by Yahweh!? 20 And rolling the scroll He returned it to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the assembly hall were gazing earnestly at Him. 21 Then He began to speak to them, that ?Today this writing is fulfilled in your ears!? 22 And all gave witness to Him and wondered at the words of favor which came forth from His mouth, and they said ?Is He not a son of Ioseph?? 23 And He said to them, ?Surely you shall speak to Me this parable: ?Physician, heal Yourself! Whatever we have heard happened in Kapharnaoum, do also here in Your fatherland!?? 24 Then He said ?Verily I say to you, that not one prophet is acceptable in his fatherland. 25 And in truth I say to you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven had been shut for three years and six months, as a great famine came upon all the land, 26 and to not one of them had Elijah been sent, except to Sarepta of Sidonia to a widow woman. 27 And there were many lepers in Israel with Elisaie the prophet, yet not one of them had been cleansed except Naiman the Syrian.? 28 And they in the assembly hall had all become filled with anger hearing these things. 29 And rising up, they cast Him out of the city and brought Him unto a brow of the mountain upon which their city was built so as to throw Him down, 30 then he departed passing through the midst of them.
31 Then He descended into Kapharnaoum a city of Galilaia, and was teaching them on the Sabbaths, 32 and they were astonished by His teaching, because His discourse was with authority.
33 And in the assembly hall was a man having a spirit of an unclean demon and he cried out in a great voice: 34 ?Hey! What is there with us and with You, Yahshua the Nazarene? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are, the Holy One of Yahweh!? 35 Then Yahshua chastised him, saying ?Be silent, and come out from him!? And the demon throwing him down between them came out from him, not hurting him any. 36 And there came amazement upon all, and they spoke together to one another, saying ?What an account this is! For that with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits and they depart!? 37 And a report went out concerning Him into every place in the surrounding area.
38 Then rising up from the assembly hall He entered into the house of Simon. And the mother-in-law of Simon was stricken with a terrible fever and they enquired of Him concerning her. 39 And standing over her He censured the fever and it left her, then immediately having risen she served them.
40 Then the sun setting, all as many as they had who were sick with various diseases they brought to Him, and He healed each one of them laying the hands upon them. 41 And there also came out demons from many, crying aloud and saying that ?You are the Son of Yahweh!? And censuring them He did not permit them to speak, because they knew Him to be the Christ.
42 Then day coming, departing He went to a desert place, and the crowd sought Him and having come unto Him then they detained Him, for which not to go away from them. 43 But He said to them that ?It is necessary for Me to deliver the good message of the Kingdom of Yahweh in other cities also, because for this I have been sent.? 44 And He was proclaiming in the assembly halls of Judaea.
V 1 And it came to pass with the crowd pressing upon Him then to hear the Word of Yahweh, that He was standing by the lake Gennesaret, 2 and He saw two vessels stationed by the lake, and the fishermen disembarked from them washing the nets. 3 And boarding one of the vessels, which was Simon?s, He asked him to set out a little from the land, and sitting He taught the crowds from the vessel. 4 Then when He had stopped speaking He said to Simon: ?Set out into the deep and lower your nets for a catch.? 5 And replying Simon said ?Master, through the whole night laboring we have taken nothing, but upon Your word I shall lower the nets.? 6 And doing this they enclosed a great multitude of fish, even bursting through their nets. 7 Then they signaled to the partners in the other vessel that they come to assist them, and coming then they filled both the vessels so as to sink them. 8 And seeing it, Simon Petros fell to the knees of Yahshua saying ?Depart from me, because I am sinful man, O Prince!? 9 For amazement embraced him and all those with him, upon the catch of the fish which they had gathered. 10 And likewise also Iakobos and Iohannes, sons of Zebedaios, who were companions with Simon. And Yahshua said to Simon, ?Do not fear, from now on you shall be catching men.? 11 And bringing back the vessels to land, leaving everything they followed Him.
12 Then it came to pass while He was in one of the cities, and behold, a man full of leprosy, and seeing Yahshua, falling upon his face he begged Him saying ?Prince, if You wish, You are able to cleanse me.? 13 And extending the hand, He touched him, saying ?I wish: you be cleansed!? And immediately the leprosy departed from him. 14 And He instructed him not to say anything, ?but departing, show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing just as Moses had prescribed, for a testimony to them.? 15 And still more there spread around the report concerning Him, and many crowds gathered to Him to listen and to be cured from their illnesses. 16 And He was retiring into the deserts and praying.
17 And it happened in one of those days that He was teaching, and the Pharisees and teachers of the law were being seated, those who were come from every town of Galilaia and Judaea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Prince was in Him to heal. 18 And behold, men carrying upon a cot a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and to set him before Him. 19 And not finding how they could bring him in because of the crowd, going up upon the roof through the ceramic tiles they lowered him with the cot into the midst before Yahshua. 20 And seeing their faith He said ?Man, your errors are forgiven you!? 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to debate, saying ?Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who is able to forgive errors if not Yahweh alone?? 22 But Yahshua, knowing their reasonings, replying said to them ?Why do you dispute in your hearts? 23 What is easier, to say ?Your errors are forgiven you? or to say ?Arise and walk?? 24 Now in order that you would see that the Son of Man has authority upon the earth to forgive wrongdoing...? He said to the paralytic ?...I say to you, arise, and taking up your cot go to your house!? 25 And immediately rising before them, taking up that which he laid upon, he departed for his house extolling Yahweh. 26 And astonishment seized all, and they extolled Yahweh. And they were filled with fear, saying that ?We have seen marvels this day!?
27 And after these things He departed, and having seen a tax-collector by the name Levi sitting by the tax office, then He said to him: ?Follow Me.? 28 And abandoning everything rising up he followed Him. 29 And Levi made a great reception for Him at his house, and there was a great crowd of tax-collectors and others who were reclining at dinner with Him. 30 And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured of them to His students, saying ?For what reason do you eat and drink with tax-collectors and wrongdoers?? 31 And replying Yahshua said to them: ?The healthy have no need of a physician, but those having maladies. 32 I have not come to call the just, but wrongdoers to repentance.?
33 Then they said to Him: ?The students of Iohannes fast frequently and make supplications, and in like manner those of the Pharisees. But they eat and drink with You.? 34 So Yahshua said to them: ?The sons of the bridegroom are not able to make fasts while the bridegroom is with them. 35 But the days shall come, and when the bridegroom is taken from them, then they shall fast in those days.?
36 Then He also spoke a parable to them, that ?No one tearing a patch from a new cloth puts it on an old garment, but if it is, then the new will tear and the old will not agree with the patch from the new. 37 And no one puts new wine into old skins, but if it is, the new wine will break the skins and it will pour out and the skins will be destroyed. 38 Rather one must put new wine into new skins. 39 And no one drinking the old desires the new, for ?the old?, one says, ?is good?.?
VI 1 And it came to pass on a Sabbath that He was passing through a planted field, and His students had been plucking and eating the grain, rubbing off the husks with their hand. 2 Then some of the Pharisees said ?Why do You do that which is not lawful on the Sabbaths?? 3 And replying Yahshua said to them ?Neither have you read that which David did when he and those who were with him had hungered. 4 As he entered into the House of Yahweh, and taking the bread of the presentation he had eaten and had given to those with him, which is not lawful to eat except only for the priests.? 5 Then He said to them: ?The Son of Man is Prince of the Sabbath.?
6 Then it happened on another Sabbath that He entered into the assembly hall to teach, and there was a man there and his right hand was withered. 7 But the scribes and the Pharisees were closely observing Him, if He would heal on the Sabbath, in order that they would find to bring an accusation against Him. 8 But He knew their reasonings, and said to the man having the withered hand: ?Arise, and stand in the middle.? And rising up he stood. 9 Then Yahshua said to them: ?I inquire of you, whether it is lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do bad, to save or to lose a life?? 10 Then looking around at them all, He said to him: ?Extend your hand.? And he did so, and his hand was restored. 11 And they were filled with a want of understanding, and discussed with one another what they could do to Yahshua.
12 And it came to pass in those days that He departed for a mountain to pray, and was passing the night in the prayer of Yahweh. 13 And when day came He called to His students, and chose out twelve from among them whom He then named ?ambassadors?: 14 Simon whom He also named Petros and Andreas his brother, and Iakobos, and Iohannes, and Philippos, and Bartholomaios, 15 and Maththaios, and Thomas, and Iakobos son of Alphaios, and Simon who is called the ?zealot?, 16 and Iouda the brother of Iakobos, and Ioudas Iskarioth who had become a traitor. 17 And descending with them He stood upon a level place, and a great crowd of His students, and a great multitude of people from all of Judaea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Turos and Sidon, 18 who had come to hear Him and to be healed from their diseases. And those being disturbed by unclean spirits had been cured. 19 And all the crowd sought to touch Him, because power comes out from Him and heals all.
20 Then He, raising His eyes to His students, said ?Blessed are the poor, because yours is the Kingdom of Yahweh. 21 Blessed are those hungering now, because you shall be filled! Blessed are those weeping now, because you shall laugh! 22 Blessed are you when men hate you and when they separate from you and they reproach and they cast out your name as evil because of the Son of Man: 23 Rejoice in that day and leap, for behold, your reward is great in heaven! For in accordance with these same things did their fathers do to the prophets.
24 ?But woe to you who are wealthy, because you hold your consolation! 25 Woe to you who are full now, because you shall hunger! Woe to those laughing now, because you shall mourn and you shall weep! 26 Woe when all men speak well to you, for in accordance with these same things did their fathers do to the false prophets!
27 ?But I say to you, to those listening, love your enemies. Do well to those hating you. 28 Speak well to those cursing you. Offer prayers for those abusing you. 29 To him striking you upon the cheek, you offer also the other. And from him taking your cloak, do not also forbid your shirt. 30 You must give to each who is asking, and from him taking your belongings do not demand back.
31 ?And just as you wish that men would do to you, you likewise do to them. 32 And if you should love those loving you, what benefit is it to you? For even the wrongdoers love those loving them. 33 And indeed if you should do good to those doing you good, what benefit is it to you? Even the wrongdoers do this. 34 And if you should loan to from whom you hope to receive, what benefit is it to you? Even the wrongdoers loan to wrongdoers that they would receive back their belongings. 35 But you should love your enemy and do good and loan nothing hoping return and your reward will be great, and you shall be sons of the Highest, because He is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.
36 ?You must be compassionate just as your Father is compassionate. 37 And you must not judge, that you would not be judged. And you must not condemn, that you would not be condemned. Acquit, and you shall be acquitted. 38 Give, and it shall be given to you. A good measure pressed, shaken, overflowing shall they put into your bosom. For in the measure which you measure shall it be measured in return to you.?
39 Then He spoke to them a parable: ?Is any one blind able to guide the blind? Would they not both fall into a ditch? 40 There is no student above the teacher, but all having been restored he shall be as his teacher. 41 Now why do you see the stick in the eye of your brother, but the beam in your own eye you do not perceive? 42 How are you able to say to your brother, ?Brother, let me extract the stick which is in your eye?, yourself not seeing the beam which is in your eye? Hypocrite! Extract first the beam from your eye, and then you will see clearly to extract the stick which is in the eye of your brother.
43 ?For there is not a good tree making rotten fruit. Contrarily, neither is there a rotten tree making good fruit. 44 For each tree is known by its own fruit. Indeed they do not gather figs from thorns. Nor could they harvest grapes from bramble-bush. 45 The good man brings forth good from the good treasure of the heart, and the wicked brings forth evil from the wicked. From the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
46 ?Now why do you call Me ?Prince, Prince? yet do not do the things which I say? 47 Every one who coming to Me and hearing My words and doing them, I will show to you what he is like. 48 He is like a man building a house who dug up and deepened and placed a foundation upon the bedrock. And a flood coming, the river burst forth against that house, yet was not able to shake it because it was well built. 49 But he who hears and does not is like a man building a house upon the earth without a foundation, which the river bursts forth against, and immediately it collapses, and great comes the breaking of that house!?
VII 1 When He had completed all of His sayings for the ears of the people, He went into Kapharnaoum. 2 And upon a certain centurion?s having a sickly servant who was about to die, who was dear to him, 3 and having heard about Yahshua, he sent to Him elders of the Judaeans, asking Him that coming He may preserve his servant. 4 And they coming near to Yahshua exhorted Him earnestly, saying that ?Worthy is he for whom You may grant this. 5 For he loves our nation and he has built the assembly hall for us.? 6 So Yahshua went with them. And already He being not far from the house, the centurion sent friends saying to Him ?Prince, You must not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should come under my roof! 7 Wherefore neither am I myself worthy to come to You, but speak in a word, and let my servant be healed. 8 For I also am a man appointed by authority, having under myself soldiers, and I say to this one ?go?, and he goes, and to another ?come?, and he comes, and to my servant ?do this?, and he does it.? 9 And hearing these things, Yahshua admiring him and turning to the crowd following Him said: ?I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith!? 10 And those who were sent, returning to the house found the servant healthy.
11 And it came to pass thereafter that He went to a city called NaVn, and His students and a great crowd went with Him. 12 And as He neared the gate of the city, then behold: a dead man being carried out, the best beloved son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a considerable crowd from the city was with her. 13 And seeing her the Prince was deeply moved by her and said to her: ?Do not weep!? 14 And going forth He grasped the coffin, and those bearing it stopped, and He said ?Young man, I say to you, arise!? 15 Then the corpse sat up and began to speak, and He gave him to his mother. 16 And fear seized all and they honored Yahweh saying that ?a great prophet has arisen among us? and that ?Yahweh has visited His people.? 17 And this account went out in the whole of Judaea and all the surrounding area concerning Him.
18 And his students reported to Iohannes concerning all of these things, and summoning a certain two of his students Iohannes 19 sent to the Prince, saying ?Are You He who is coming, or do we expect another?? 20 Then coming to Him the men said: ?Iohannes the Baptist sent us to You, saying: ?Are you He who is coming, or do we expect another??? 21 And at that hour He had healed many from diseases and plagues and wicked spirits and many blind were granted to see. 22 And replying He said to them: ?Going, report to Iohannes the things which you have seen and you have heard: The blind have their sight restored and the lame walk about, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor are brought good news, 23 and blessed is he who is not offended by Me!?
24 And the messengers of Iohannes departing, He began to speak to the crowd concerning Iohannes: ?Why do you go out into the desert? To behold a reed being shaken by the wind? 25 Rather why do you go out? To see a man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who are in splendid and luxurious garments are in the palaces! 26 But why do you go out? To see a prophet? Yea, I say to you, and greater than a prophet! 27 This is concerning whom it was written: ?Behold, I shall send My messenger before Your face, who shall prepare Your way before You.? 28 I say to you, no one born of women is greater than Iohannes, but he who is least in the Kingdom of Yahweh is greater than he!? 29 And all the people heard, and the tax-collectors deemed Yahweh just, being immersed in the immersion of Iohannes. 30 But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of Yahweh in regard to themselves, not being immersed by him.
31 ?So to what do I compare the men of this race? And what are they like? 32 They are like boys sitting in the market place and calling to one another things which say ?We piped for you and you did not dance. We sang dirges and you did not weep.? 33 For Iohannes the Baptist came not eating wheat-bread nor drinking wine and you say ?He has a demon.? 34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say ?Behold the man is a glutton and a wine-drinker, a friend of tax-collectors and wrongdoers!? 35 And Wisdom is justified by all of her children. ?
36 Then one of the Pharisees had asked Him that He would eat with him. And entering into the house of the Pharisee He reclined. 37 And behold, there was a woman who was in the city, a wrongdoer, and finding out that He reclined in the house of the Pharisee, she acquired a box of ointment, 38 and standing behind by His feet weeping, with tears she began to wet His feet and wiped them off with the hair of her head, and she kissed and anointed His feet with ointment. 39 And seeing, the Pharisee who invited Him spoke to himself saying ?If He were a prophet, He would know who and of what sort is the woman who touches Him, that she is a wrongdoer.? 40 And replying Yahshua said to him ?Simon, I have something to say to you.? ?Then teacher,? he said, ?speak!? 41 ?Two men were indebted to a certain moneylender. The one owed five hundred denarii, the other fifty. 42 Upon their having nothing to repay, he forgave both. Now which of them should love him more?? 43 Answering Simon said ?I suspect that to whom he forgave more.? And He said to him ?You have decided correctly.? 44 Then turning to the woman with Simon He said ?Look at this woman. I have come into your house. You did not offer water for My feet. But she with tears wet My feet and wiped them off with her hair. 45 You did not offer Me a kiss. But she from her coming in has not ceased kissing My feet. 46 You did not anoint My head with olive oil. But she with ointment has anointed My feet. 47 For that favor, I say to you, her many errors are forgiven, because she has loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, loves little.? 48 Then He said to her: ?Your errors are forgiven.? 49 And those dining together began to speak among themselves, ?Who is this who even forgives wrongdoing?? 50 Then He said to the woman: ?Your faith has preserved you: go in peace.?
VIII 1 And it came to pass thereafter, that He was passing through each city and town proclaiming and announcing the good message of the Kingdom of Yahweh, and the twelve were with Him, 2 and there were certain women, who were healed from evil spirits and illnesses: Maria who is called Magdalane from whom seven demons were expelled, 3 and Iohanna wife of Chouza a trustee of Herodas, and Sousanna and many others, who had been ministering to them from their belongings.
4 And a great crowd coming together and upon their traveling to each city with Him, He spoke in a parable: 5 ?The sower has come out to sow his seed: and in his sowing, while that which fell by the road was then trampled and the birds of heaven devoured it, 6 then others had fallen upon the bedrock, and sprouting it withered because it did not have moisture. 7 And others had fallen in among the thorns, and growing together the thorns strangled them. 8 Yet others had fallen onto the good earth and sprouting produced fruit a hundredfold.? Saying these things He cried out ?He having an ear to hear must hear!?
9 Then His students enquired of Him: ?What could this parable be?? 10 And He said ?To you it is given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Yahweh, but to the rest in parables, that seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not understand.
11 ?This is the parable: The seed is the Word of Yahweh, 12 and they by the road are those hearing, then comes the False Accuser and he takes the Word from their hearts, lest believing they would be preserved. 13 And those upon the bedrock, when they heard they received the Word with joy, but these do not have roots, who for a time believe and in time of trial they withdraw. 14 And those having fallen into the thorns, they are those hearing and going off are strangled by the cares and riches and pleasures of life and are not brought to perfection. 15 But that which is in the fair earth, they are those who are fair and good in heart, hearing the Word, continuing they then bear fruit in patient endurance.
16 ?Now no one lighting a lamp conceals it in a vessel or sets it under a couch, but sets it upon a lampstand, that those entering in would see the light. 17 For there is nothing secret which shall not become evident, nor hidden which shall not be known and brought to light.
18 ?Therefore you watch how you hear. Indeed whoever has, it shall be given to him, and whoever has not even that which he supposes to have shall be taken from him.?
19 Then His mother and brethren came near to Him, yet were not able to meet with Him because of the crowd. 20 So it was announced to Him: ?Your mother and brethren stand outside wishing to see You!? 21 And replying He said to them ?My mother and My brethren are those hearing and doing the Word of Yahweh!?
22 And it happened in one of those days that He and His students boarded into a vessel, and He said to them: ?We should pass through to the other side of the lake?, and they set out. 23 Then most of them had fallen asleep, and a furious storm of wind descended upon the lake, and being filled with water then they were endangered. 24 So drawing near they aroused Him saying ?Master, Master, we are being destroyed!? And awakening He censured the wind and the waves of water, and they stopped, and it became calm. 25 Then He said to them ?Where is your faith?? But being fearful they wondered saying to each other ?So who is this that He even commands the winds and the water, and they obey Him??
26 Then they came ashore in the region of the Gadarenes which is opposite the coast of Galilaia. 27 And with His coming out upon the land He met a certain man from the city having demons, and for considerable time who had not worn a garment, and has abode not in a house but among the tombs. 28 And seeing Yahshua, crying out he fell down before Him and in a loud voice he said ?What is there with me and with You, Yahshua Son of Yahweh the Highest? I beg You, do not torment me!? 29 Therefore He commanded the unclean spirit to come out from the man. For many times he had seized him, and being guarded he was bound in chains and shackles, yet breaking through the bonds he had been driven by the demon into the wilderness. 30 Then Yahshua questioned him, ?What is your name?? And he said ?Legion?, because many demons had entered into him. 31 And they exhorted Him that He would not command them to depart into the abyss. 32 And there was a considerable herd of swine there feeding on the mountain, and they exhorted Him that He would allow them to enter into them, and He allowed them. 33 Then the demons departing from the man entered into the swine, and the herd rushed headlong down the bank into the lake and drowned.
34 And seeing what happened, the swineherds fled and announced it in the city and in the fields. 35 Then they came out to see what happened and they came to Yahshua and found the man from whom He had expelled the demons sitting at the feet of Yahshua dressed and of sound mind, and they feared. 36 And those seeing it reported to them how He had saved him being possessed by demons. 37 And the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes asked Him to depart from them, because they were stricken with great fear. Then He, boarding into a vessel, returned. 38 But the man from whom the demons were expelled had begged Him to be with Him. But He dismissed him, saying: 39 ?Return to your house and describe what things Yahweh has done for you.? And he went out through the whole city proclaiming what things Yahshua had done for him.
40 And upon the returning of Yahshua the crowd received Him, for they were all expecting Him. 41 And behold, there came a man with the name Iahiros, and he was a leader of the assembly hall, and falling by the feet of Yahshua he invited Him to come into his house, 42 because his best-loved daughter, about twelve years old, was in it and she was about to die. And upon bringing Him the crowd constrained Him. 43 And there was a woman with a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent her entire livelihood with physicians, who was not able to be healed by anyone, 44 who approaching behind Him grabbed the hem of His garment and immediately the flow of her blood had stopped. 45 And Yahshua said ?Who has grabbed Me?? Then all denying, Petros said ?Master, the crowd constrains and presses upon You!? 46 Then Yahshua said ?Someone has grabbed Me, for I know that power has gone out from Me.? 47 And the woman, seeing that she had not gone unnoticed, came trembling and falling before Him because of the charge that she had grabbed Him, announced before all of the people even how she was immediately healed. 48 And He said to her ?Daughter, your faith has preserved you, go in peace.? 49 While He was speaking someone comes by the assembly hall leader saying that ?Your daughter has died. Trouble the Teacher no longer.? 50 But hearing it Yahshua replied to him ?Fear not, only have faith, and she shall be preserved.? 51 And coming into the house He did not allow anyone to enter with Him except Petros and Iohannes and Iakobos, and the father and the mother of the child. 52 And all were weeping and mourning her, and He said: ?Do not weep. For she has not died, but is sleeping.? 53 And they were deriding Him, knowing that she had died. 54 Then grasping her hand He cried aloud, saying ?Child, arise!? 55 And her spirit returned and immediately she stood up, and He commanded to give for her to eat. 56 And her parents were astonished, and He instructed them to say nothing of what happened.
