Granby, Mo. — During Tuesday’s Granby City Council meeting, council members discussed unsightly locations in town.
Prior to the meeting, they were to bring a list of the locations to the council.
Granby Mayor Donna Fullerton noted there were between 18-20 locations on the list.
“(There are) houses that haven’t been touched; junky, just junky looking places,” Fullerton noted.
According to a list provided by the city, some of the issues include, but are not limited to, an abandoned fifth wheel on Fir Street, an abandoned trailer on Maple and Fir Street, brush in a yard at Spruce and Ash Street trailers on Granby Miners Road, two abandoned houses on Rabbit Track, four abandoned houses on Cobb Hill, abandoned vehicles on South Grove.
As to the reason why, Fullerton said, “just to try to get the town cleaned up so that we look good.”
The council also decided to send out letters to those who own the property.
“And give them 30 days to clean up,” she said. “And the (police) chief (Scott Whitman) and police officers will issue citations, and they will have to come to court.”
The letters will soon go out to the individuals, the mayor noted.
This is not the first time the city has done this. Fullerton noted she thought that two or three years ago, “I remember when Scott was first hired, he said he was going to clean up Granby."
The council also went into closed session.
“And we didn’t discuss personnel, but we did discuss possible litigation,” Fullerton said.
